Does the NWS name storms also or is this just TWC doing this?

Just the idiots at The Roker Channel.

Bad thing is that USA and some other NBC owned systems are using it, so it's getting some play on the web.

Bethel and lower ykon River area under their 4 day of blizzard conditions and yet it never makes the news beond our local up here. Goes to show how much the liberal news media builts stuff up. Another massive stor here is pushing north and amplifing as it goes fed by an trough out of the bering.

Got 7.3" overnight where I work in central N. Jersey.  As far as this phenomenon of naming winter storms, I increasingly despise it.  All these outlets jumping in and adopting this are a bunch of pandering tools.  God help us, even Doc. Masters mentioned the name in one of his blogs.  The Weather Channel.  Ugh.   Can't wait to see what stupidness NWS is going to come up with to replace advisory/watch/warning terms.  Love this media driven, sensational, reality tv society we live in.  Think I'll charter a boat to the Mosquito Coast.  Done my rant.

The main reason John is that up there, it only effects 10 people (I know, there are more than that!) but in the NE, tens of millions of people are effected. Population numbers are part of the calculations of the KU winter storm index.

That's a huge drift!

That way it was when I grew up. It the reason most houses had what was called an snow shed where fire wood etc was kept. It gave a person an area to get out the house for supplies and kept them free of snow. In some area it even connected to the barn for milking cows with out digging out. Yep thatan going out the 2nd story window to clear the door.

As to the 10 people here in Alaska that about the way ower  48  feels  including the government. They have set an predences that birds are worth more then people lives. I'll post that article in chit chat.

Now THAT is the very definition of being snowed in!!

Thank goodness I moved out of the Northeast to the southern states last year.  Now if 2 inches of snow falls here it is a catastrophe and Wal*Mart gets cleaned out. I laugh. I told a buddy here, you never have seen real snow have you?  He says yeah, look outside... I'm like that is a dusting. Go north a few states then you will know what snow really is.

Speaking of Wal-Mart, I'll never forget how the local east side Wal-Mart responded to a winter storm warning a couple of years ago.  I walked in and couldn't believe how well they were responding to it since nearly all the check-out stands were manned.  Only had to wait a short time in line.

Not a Wally World fan in general but I go there occasionally because it is very close to campus. The Thursday before last we were supposed to get 2-4" of snow (Got 3"), and I waited 35 minutes in line  ](*,) But on the bright side I got to chat awhile I guess since I was with a group.
