Where can I buy a USB data logger for weatherlink?
« on: September 01, 2014, 11:48:35 AM »
I'm having all kinds of problems getting my router to see the IP data logger.  I want to try the USB

Who has one for sale?

What sort of problems (other than the fact that you didn't have the AC power connected)?

What router?

Getting the router to see the WLIP is usually just a matter of plugging in the WLIP to the router.

How are you diagnosing these problems?

What weather software programs are you running?

It's a Cisco router, it's their newest one they are using at Comcast

The weatherlink software does not find device when I type in the MAC address  - I'm sure I have a good cat5 cable and its hooked directly into the back of the Cisco modem/router, no switches or RJ45 plug in's

I'm sure I'm typing in the correct MAC address too, I had it all working but now my weatherlink software doesn't see it now.

I tried restarting router several times and restarted computer and I restarted the weatherlink software all with no luck

Led on data link is blinking

Is there a better more stable way to do all of this, its way too flakey for me, I'm not real happy with it.

What can I do to make this thing bullet proof ?     PLEASE TELL ME

Oh.  Well, you originally said:

I'm having all kinds of problems getting my router to see the IP data logger.

So, does the router see the logger or not?  [Log into the router and find out]

Have you "fiddled" with any settings on the WLIP?

As you said, get a USB logger (as was recommended by several people in another thread).  Then you can be not real happy with something else.

Quit shooting at it?

Seriously, try taking things one at a time.

OK, what is your WeatherLink.Com identifier?  That would let us see if the WLIP and the VP2 are working together.

I agree with Dalecoy. You need to log into the router see if the logger is connected   and use the mac address that the logger is showing in the router. Plus if it were me I would assign the logger a dedicated ip address via the router.

Exactly what I did, I used a dedicated ip address via the router, using MAC address and Ip,  I will be calling Davis tomorrow maybe they have an idea

Exactly what I did,

I really don't have a clue as to what you did, or what you see (when you log into the router) or what your WeatherLink.Com ID is or whether you are having problems getting the router to recognize the WLIP or what.  You really don't answer questions here.

Perhaps Davis technical support will have better luck.

Please let us know what they say, and what happens.

This is how tech support got it working

1-remove ac power
2-remove batteries
3- remove data logger

then
1-install data logger
2-install ac power
3-install batteries

press done button, now it displays wind from station 5 and weather info from station 1
go to setup in weatherlink software  - select setup - select local IP device - and select find -   IT WORKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! \:D/ \:D/ \:D/ \:D/ \:D/

The manual has no index, its like hunting for a needle in a hay stack - not user friendly

So.......you didn't read the manual then??? Davis manuals may not be the best but they can help the 'new' Davis user an awful lot. I was beginning to wonder if Davis stopped including manuals as a money saver thing.

I think you'll find this forum to be the same way, if you don't answer questions, and keep complaining.

The answer you received from Davis was one that many people here have supplied to many other folks with problems -- after they clearly described their problem.

I hope you have lots of luck.

I apologize if that seems a bit harsh, but:

I will be using a thing called climate module that works thru Ham Weather that will run my home automation to run an irrigation system.  The system is called ISY-994i

You are apparently installing a lot of home automation, including ISY-994i, require posting to Ham Weather which will require additional software other than WeatherLink.

If you aren't going to read the manuals, and get in a giant hurry for answers .............................

...then you're not going to have an easytim(e).
