WMR88 Great prices
« on: September 19, 2015, 04:23:21 PM »
I have seen these for $90 at Cabelas. Are these decent wx stations? Is the wind speed update rates really almost at 1 minute intervals to report to the web or is it just on the console? I would like to try one of these since it is $90 off the original price!

I have a WMR88 and have been pretty pleased with it. I have noticed some intermittent reception issues. I'm not sure whether it is an issue with my unit or some kind of interference at my house.

I did some more homework, and that wind speed update interval is garbage and a deal breaker for me. The anemometer itself sends a signal every 14 or 16 seconds, but the console will not reflect this, and only updates every 56 seconds, which is way too long for me. Even the cheaper ambient ws-2080 or 1080's update every 48 seconds... and show the highest speed. I think I will pass on this one.

I've always treated the WMR88 as a great way to get a suite of OS sensors (Wind/Rain/Temp/RH) at a good price. I use a custom RF receiver so the base console is a don't care for me.

Suspect these are on sale because the WMR88 is being replaced with the WMR89.

The 88 and the 89 are junk / likely to be junk. I wouldn't spend the $$$ on it / them. Save it for a much more reliable station.
