usaextremes.php & stateextremes.php Crashing
« on: August 22, 2018, 12:32:24 AM »
I incorporated the USA Extremes and State Extremes into my menubar some time ago.  This evening I tried to load my web site and discovered it was unreachable.  After fiddling around looking for problems there I tried to load my self-hosted testing site with the same results.

GoDaddy tech support confirmed that their hosting was performing normally, and since both of my identical sites were down I assumed it was a problem with my site.  The error logs on my GoDaddy site pointed to menubar.php as the culprit.  When I tried to load my site on this computer's WAMPserver, it stopped loading after errors related to usaextremes.php and stateextremes.php, which gave me the source of my problem.

I removed the Extremes code from my menubar and everything loaded normally once again.  I liked them, and I'm not sure why these scripts suddenly failed. :-(

EDIT:  It seems that the CPC is currently down.  Once it's back up these scripts may function correctly again!

Thank you Jerry, for the heads-up.

I probably would have spent some time digging into the slowness this a.m.

Again, thanks for sharing and saving time.

I spent hours last night trying to figure out why my site was taking forever to load - I could not.
This morning finally got on here and saw this message.  I disabled the state extremes and working fine.

Jerry, thank you very much for your post, your suggestion to disable saved me losing more of the grey hair I have  :-P

The CPC is back online as of a few minutes ago.

These two scripts now work again, although they're showing data from Monday rather than Tuesday on my website.

Jerry,  do you think its possible to add a "fail safe" in that script so it can't take down a whole site?

It doesn't appear Ken True has used the CURLOPT_CONNECTTIMEOUT option in getting the data in the extremes scripts as he does in many of his other scripts. Perhaps Ken could address whether a timeout should be added to these.
