New member looking for guidance to update his weather station!
« on: February 23, 2011, 10:25:00 AM »
I am a long time personal weather user and CoCoRaHS member with a need to update my weather station.
I have replaced my Oregon WMR968 several time over the last 10 years and run an old Windows PC with XT for that sole purpose.
I now use iMACs (27 inch), iPAD, iPhone etc and would like to use my Apple network for my weather reporting.
Weather goes to -15F and 50 mph at our retirement spot near Ragged Mt so I hope for to find a better wind measuring device.

Recommendations?  :?:

Thanks!

If you're looking for an anemometer and not wishing to get online, I'd go with an Inspeed unit.  I've seen these in the field with winds over 90mph and they were still ticking.  I had one a couple years ago that got beaten with tennis ball size hail and it still worked....with only 2 cups LOL.

That's the MPH capability I need but want to go on-line to update the 6 sites to whom I send data.
I do have two Wifi networks here and a pole on which I can mount the wind instruments. Thanks for the input!  :-)

I agree with the previous post, budget will determine what you can get.

Budget is about $500. I do not really need a display station as iMACs, iPhone & iPod provide the best displays.
Any wireless weather instruments out there that provide data to an app on those?

I have a VWS Internet license and many Oregon Scientific sensors.

If you use a Davis station with WeatherLink IP, there is an app on the iPhone for that.

If you can stretch to it then I can highly recommend the Davis VP2.
My highest recorded gust with the VP2 is 98mph and it's seen 77mph this year already.

You can get them with the console or as the Envoy version with no console, although I would tend to go for the console so you can set it up without the need for a PC.  ;)
Davis make a Mac version of the Weatherlink datalogger for direct connection to the Mac to enable local storage of your data.

Martin.
