Summer/Winter 2017
« on: May 31, 2017, 07:46:35 PM »
Unbelievable how time flies... sadly, the summer has just began here hour ago, although here it feels like it began last week already. It was a bit colder today due to the yesterday's thunderstorm at night, but it is supposed to get warmer again and stay so until the end of the week, daily max around 30°C (86°F).

If you are wondering why I called this thread "summer/winter" don't forget this is an international forum and there are also people from the other hemisphere ;-) (lucky you, enjoy the winter :D)

After a longer dry period we finally got some rain today, and for a short while quite intense with even hail :-) Love this :D

June has been also pretty dry here in Northern Germany, with currently 30.3 mm of rain at my station (or just over 1 inch for imperial users). Temperatures are quite average for the time of year though, right now it is 17°C (63°F) outside with a partly cloudy sky and the strong gusty northwestern wind has eased a bit today. Yesterday was quite windy with average winds around 30 mph and gusts up to 45 mph.

The "real summer" begins here about the beginning of July and lasts until Mid/Late August and this means then temperatures usually in the 20s (C) (70-80°F), with some days of over 30°C (high 80s to low or mid 90s F) thrown in and sometimes also some colder spells (mostly combined with wind and rain) with temperatures in the high teens (60s °F). It is rarely colder than that and even at night time the lows barely drop below 10°C/50°F here at the coast.

Pretty warm here (SE UK) at present, 29ºC yesterday, 30ºC+ expected today and same again tomorrow
Im tying to find average daytime temps but cant seem to find it, but i think we are above ave so far
this month. Other than 0.2mm on the 9th (June) nothing since, my soil sensor is gagging at 178
and no rain for the foreseeable, although, the UKMO says a wee thunder storm could popup today, but i
they are just safe guarding...
Kind regards

Was talking with son in Arizona he said it was hot. Looks like his home on high desert near Utah border at Page /Lake Powell, Page elevation 4300' (1310 meters) has record high forecast. The old record is 109° x-3 times occurred since 1958. 110°F (43.3C)  is forecast.

If it meets or breaks I'll post back this would be an all time since records begin if it happens.

We had our highest temperature of the year yesterday with a max of 31.3°C (88°F), combined with a rather high humidity of 45% and a cloudless sky.
Also not much wind was present, so it felt quite uncomfortable even here at the coast.

Right now @10:30 its 19°C (66°F) with a partly cloudy sky and today it will not rise much above that, since a cold front will pass over Northern Germany this afternoon-
bringing a cool change with just a wind shift and no rain.

Only reached 103° yesterday. Forecast is 109° (42.7C) I have my doubts but maybe. I've seen this before living in Arizona 42 years when it would get super hot around area but never materialized to the extreme others got.

Well reached 108° on the Page KPGA ASOS. Most likely broke daily high and almost tied all time.

My flat right now... windows opened, fan on... and tomorrow forecasted 3 degrees higher temperatures

http://www.meteotemplate.com/template/indexBlockDemoNarrow.php?block=indoor

So tomorrow Im expeccting the temp in my flat to reach 35 C (95F), it is right below the roof and of course no A/C (and not one in my office either, so it is not much better :D)

Well I have AC central in fact, as most around here do with at least window units  for summer so it's 77° (25°C) inside.   And with ceiling fan it feels just right.

The major problem is that not only it gets this hot, but I live right in the city center and there are higher buildings all around me so even at night when it drops to about 20-22 C (70F), there is absolutely no wind flow so it doesnt get much colder even with all windows opened. And tomorrow it will start of hotter than today already and during the day we are expecting a record high for 22 Jun of about 35-36°C.

I remember in July/August 2015 we had a major 2-week lasting heat wave, where every day the daily max was above 35 (95F), very unusual, but during that time, the temperature in my flat never dropped below 30°C (86F), sleeping in this is a nightmare and then I went to my office where we had about 3-4 degrees less, only because it is not right under the roof

Heres a wee tip that i have been using for the last week, close all windows during the day, after all, why would you want
30ºC air in the property, also close curtains where the sun hits, thicker curtains the better, once the sun goes down
and its cooler outside than in, then open ya windows, of course, if ya dropped a wee loggy at the pool then that would
necessitate the opening of ones bathroom window and to hell with the devils heat lol ;)

I am in a bungalow South facing, so only one floor, no where for the heat to rise to so i know what ya going through Jachym.
Applying my method only works if you can get it sufficiently cooler in there at night. Had a few days over the past week thats
topped 30ºC and during the day with the curtains and the windows closed, its topped out at 24ºC inside, now thats bearable :)
I only found out by accident about the closing of the windows, curtains i have known for years but, lined or blackout curtains are
better, I have 3 big hairy Bearded Collies so keeping it as cool as is important for them more than it is me, oh and you need to
close the windows as soon as the temp starts to rise inside again.

PS. ymmv :)

I think Heathrow hit 34.4ºC yesterday, warmest (hottest) June day since '76
Kind regards

25.0°C (77°F) with 68% humidity here and partly sunny.

We had an impressing thunderstorm complex with shelfcloud around midmorning (11 am) which brought some negligible rain (1.2 mm), but in other parts of Northern Germany it was far more worse, even a tornado has been reported by weather observers in the area around Hamburg according to the local media, though fortunality it looks like there wasn't any damage, since it had ground contact only for a short time.

Warmest day of the year so far and most likely a record high for Jun 22, currently close to 35°C (95), it is still just 3PM so it might get even a bit higher by around 5PM, at some places in CZ it is close to 37C (99F).

Thats what is supposed to arrive here tomorrow, right now close to 37C  I hate this, I seriously do and given it is also the longest day of the year and I like winter and night, this is probably the absolute worst possible combination for me :D

What a nice end of the day! 37C at 5:30PM, then at 20:30 a squall line arrived, the temp dropped from 28 to 19 in a matter of a few minutes with significant wind gust and about 8mm rain (1/3in) in 10 minutes with lots of lightning. Now another large thunderstorm is going towards my city, Im expecting it to arrive in about 3-4h, most likely at the time when I will go to bed :D

As expected... around 4AM the second squall line passed my city. Look at what the pressure did...

change of 4hPa (0.11 inHg) in 10 minutes...

It has been very mild so far this summer in northern Alabama. It hasn't really gotten "hot" yet... only a handful of 90 degree days so far this year, 11 to be exact. I'm loving this!  \:D/  Back in my hometown in Upstate South Carolina, there's only been two 90 degree days so far this year.

Pattern looks to be changing in the next couple of week once this cooler/drier weather moves out of the central and eastern US. We will probably get our typical summer heat by mid-July.

This must've been what my mother meant about growing up in Valentine Ne. without AC she said summers were miserably hot & winter's bitter cold. Why would you want to live their for christ sakes?
