Online Weather Center
« on: March 09, 2016, 04:30:58 PM »
Our support team took the data from my PWS and ingested it into a website we offer called "Online Weather Center". Here is a link to it:

http://legacy.weather.weatherbug.com/weather-safety/online-weather-center/OnlineWeatherCenter.aspx?aid=6521

It can easily be linked to a website, plus it shows radar, forecasts, etc.

What's REALLY nice is it also offers historical data, graphs, etc.

Is this something you'd like to use with your own PWS once we get the new PWS system going? I can talk with my CTO and see what it'd take to provide this as a free observations page to all PWS site operators.

Thanks!

Very nice!  It is especially nice to be able to navigate to the maps, nearby stations, and cams as well.  Yes, I would use it.

I like it very much and this is what I'd like your mobile apps to look like on the main window also, with a top left menu button to access the other items.
Davis VP2 (cabled) Uploading to PWS, Weather Underground, Weathercloud, WOW, WeatherBug, AWEKAS and Twitter, using Cumulus.  Cabled = fewer problems, less maintenance and better reliability!

Add me to the list of folks who would use it.  Looks good on both my laptop and my Android phone.

Thanks everyone for the positive feedback. I will definitely pass this on for sure. I feel like I finally have a good template to show our teams.

We have some other graphing and historical data code on hand we can connect PWS data to as well, and we can push some of this code to our mobile app. I'm talking with our teams to see what we can do with it.

I'm definitely giving all this feedback to my CTO. I think I've found something we've finally done right. :-)

Had the meeting today. Once we bring in a couple of interns, we're going to show them Online Weather Center and see what it would take to get PWS data connected either to it or something similar in design. Thanks for the feedback!

Is this something PWS users in the UK can use? It does look pretty nice.

If all goes well and we can connect our new PWS feed either into OWC or something similar in design, the answer would be yes. Both US and International stations would work, plus they'll finally show up on WeatherBug.com and in our desktop and mobile apps.

International stations are one major "pain point" we'll be resolving with the new PWS system. With our old system, it involved jumping through hoops and manually flipping switches to get them working. This time around, International stations will be fully supported and "first class citizens" with US stations in the new system without the "pain points" you've all had to endure.

Additionally, we're ingesting in various International feeds into our system, so for those of you who also publish your station data to some of those feeds, it's highly likely you're going to pop up in our system on one of those feeds even before the new PWS system goes online (like we're also working on with NWS CWOP).

Thanks!

I like this!  Is there a place to select a certain station or zip code?  I do not see one, unless I'm missing something.   #-o

Until a slot to choose city/zip is implemented, I was able to zoom out and pan the map.  I clicked on the map a few times and a list of stations appeared on the map.  I was able to select the station of my choice.

I like the fact that the information updates in real time again.   The web page seems to only update once every five minutes.

What are the chances of having the new WeatherBug mobile app look like this on the main window? That's what would impress me.

OWC is primarily to embed on a person's website. Think of it like an HTML widget on steroids. :-)

However, I can tell our teams that if we can successfully get this into an all-purpose visualization tool for PWS owners (which we're going to see what we can do) that we can add a location search box. It would make sense to add one to it. That shouldn't be hard to do.

I can definitely pass on the feedback and see if we could make our mobile app more like this. Plus this should also load on a mobile device cleanly as well.
