Ridiculous!
« on: April 23, 2015, 01:41:27 PM »
So in an attempt to eventually get away from WU being my source for online weather data from my two stations, I signed up with WB last evening. I'm not sure if this was a big mistake or what, but thus far I'm really not pleased with anything I see.

Been nearly 24 hours and STILL do not see my station represented on the map. The closest is one at the Port Washington, Ohio school. Besides the screen I'm attaching this is the ONLY source of my stations data I can locate thus far. Nope, I'm not thrilled.

The pop up ads that overlay the weather screen for current conditions are also, to say the least, overwhelming! I sure hope WB is being compensated a nice chunk of change by these advertisers cause there's NO WAY you can miss their ads!!

Unhappy in Ohio,
Don

My computers underwent maintenance this week, so I'm just now getting on. Sorry for the delay in responding.

From the attachment you showed me, data is definitely not reaching us. Can you post a screenshot of the publishing app you're using? That'd help me see if everything looks OK there.

Additionally, here's a few tidbits about the "State of Backyard" you'll want to know:

1. Once everything gets going, you'll be able to view your station data at WeatherBug.com and M.WeatherBug.com.
2. Backyard Stations are missing from our desktop and mobile apps currently. We're in the process of re-writing our Backyard Stations backend from scratch on a more reliable system, and once its completed, Backyard Stations will be available in desktop and mobile. See the 2015 Grapevine thread for frequent updates.
3. A new WeatherBug.com is coming this year (probably this summer). I've told our teams to loosen up on the ads, as well as we're working on a Single Sign on where station owners will be getting an ad-free WeatherBug.com (and desktop and mobile apps) coming up, as well as some other freebies the longer you're a member (some will be getting software we charge businesses $1,000/year for free).

By the way, data isn't reaching us, so if you're able to provide me with a screenshot of your publishing app, I'd be happy to have a look to see what's up. I'll be happy to work with you until data is flowing as it should.

It appears to be working ok on my end. I haven't received any error messages in the logs on WUHU. Attached is a screen shot of the program I use. I believe many hundreds or more of us are using this same program.

Also attached in a screen capture of the most recent view of my station online on WB. Again, seems to be working ok.

Also attached is a screen shot of the WUHU main screen.

Finally is a screen shot of a station in Illinois. Is there a way I can access this page for my station?

Thanks!

Don in Ohio

Thanks for the screenshots. Do you also have an image of the exact page in WUHU where you're putting in your WeatherBug credentials? I don't see that one attached. That would be the best one for me to have a look at.

Image "WB2" is definitely where your data will show once we can ensure data is flowing to us OK. That's the main WeatherBug.com site.

The "WB3" image you sent me is a product that our professional department offers. Here's the official link to it:
http://www.earthnetworks.com/Products/OnlineWeatherCenter.aspx

As it stands now, it probably doesn't offer support for Backyard Stations. However, once we move our Backyard Stations to the new data system, as well as rollout the new WeatherBug.com with the Single Sign On, everyone with a login is going to have access to our full "customer system" where we can give Backyard Station owners more freebies. I could find out what it'd take to hook up the new Backyard Stations system to the Online Weather Center feed and offer it free for Backyard Station owners on the new system. I'm not making any promises, but it's something I can definitely mention and ask about.

In the meantime, there is another HTML widget out there that can take data from your station and embed it in a website. I've put in a message to the developer who built it get my hands on it, ensure it's all polished up and functioning as it needs to be, then we'll see what we need to do to release it to the public so you all can start using it on your websites.

By the way, another way you can deal with the ad problem now until the new site goes online. If your bowser supports the "AdBlock" extension, give it a spin. I'm using it on Safari on my Mac, and WeatherBug.com is clean and ad-free now. I can actually see weather content again. :-)

According to that screen shot you have zero uploads.     did you stop WUHU and then restart it after entering the logon?    If that is not the problem then the logon is incorrect.

I stopped WUHU to grab the screen shot. It is running normally and no errors.

Hmm, data still isn't reaching us, but your screenshot looks OK to me:
http://data.backyard2.weatherbug.com/data/ecv.aspx?ID=p22608

Just to be "overly meticulous", can you make sure there's not an empty space after your Publisher ID or Station Number? Sometimes it's something that minor that can throw it off.

In the meantime, I'm going to show this thread to the WUHU guys to see what's up. It looks like it should be working.

Additionally, I chatted with my CTO about Online Weather Center and Backyard. He said after the new Backyard Stations feed goes online and we launch the SSO, it will be possible to ingest Backyard Station data into Online Weather Center, and we will probably do something to offer it for Backyard Station owners to include in their websites. So it's definitely possible to do and something we can do.

In the meantime, I'm still going to try to get the code for that other Backyard Widget so you have something to use in the meantime.

Thanks!

Hi Nathan... I cleared all fields then re entered them EXACTLY as they were assigned to me, or as I chose them. I guess if we can't get the issue taken care of I'll just remove the station for the feed. It seems as if it loses connection, then reconnects, which is odd because my WUHU logs don't show any issues.

Good news. You're coming through now:
http://data.backyard2.weatherbug.com/data/ecv.aspx?ID=p22608

I can check it tomorrow when I get in the office to see if data stays up. If it does, our system should also have refreshed by then so you'll be visible at WeatherBug.com. Let's hope it works! :-)

So this morning I check and see that all is well. This afternoon I return home from work and see that the high and low extremes had been reset as if it had lost all records. Meanwhile my feeds on PWS as well as WU are error free. Is this an internal issue with WB? It's really odd and furthermore to anyone who views the data AFTER the extremes have been reset, it's misleading. I'm not pointing the finger of blame to anyone, just making observations.

Where are you seeing the reset? I can see what's going on.

That is correct. I do not know about the other extremes as I do not have access to them on your WB site.

Thanks for the info. Visit your test page here: http://data.backyard2.weatherbug.com/data/ecv.aspx?ID=p22608 and click on the link where you can email us. Attach that screenshot you showed me, as well as re-list your Publisher ID. That'll go into our support case software, and I can escalate this up to my CTO right away to see what's going on. That way he can also message you directly if need be without me having to bounce messages between both of you.
