« on: December 11, 2010, 05:51:54 PM »
What unit should I use for soil moisture?

cb (centibar) or cp (centipoise)

And what is the unit for Leaf wetness?

Lars,
I would go with centibar...isnt a poise for viscosity?  Not that anyone visiting your site will really know the difference, its really for you.

I dont think leaf wetness is a real unit, so Davis has made/used a 15 point scale....

Thanks Andrew and Scalphunter for your answers.

I will stay with cb for now.

now all you have to do is set up a device for measuring arab terrorists on a scale between 1 and 10.  heard about the bombing and the call to riot. can't you export those folks?

I fully understand.  As my dad said "we've been thrown out of better places" , but I do know what you mean...   I disagreeded with someone of Weathermatrix and after 10 years and tons of good advice, they booted me .   I have got over that and don't mind it.

However stay safe... good luck with the sensors.

about 8 years ago  my wife and me spent a month in Sweden, Norway and Denmark.  Just us, and we sort of went where we wanted and loved it. I would return in a heartbeat.   We took the Inland Banan up to Abisko, stopping along the way in various places.  It was fun not speaking the language yet getting along perfectly with everyone.  Too bad these characters can't move up to the Northern country and live and let others enjoy it as well.   we then went to Narvak in Norway, and took a bus and train down to Oslo, and ended up in Copenhagen.   Perhaps it is time that folks take the same attitude that their grandparents did when the Nazi's were in town and deal with it the same way.

If I go to a bad diner, the food or service sucks, I don't go back.  I return to where I like it. Perhaps these yokels need to go back to where they came from, stop buying Swedish products and enjoy those countries  from where they came.  Basically they need to be expelled.

Nope, they need to be treated in the manner WE WOULD BE IF WE DID THE SAME THING OVER THERE.
That would be fair.

Sorry to butt in...

there is a company that makes the soil moisture sensors that Davis uses,  it is called Watermark.   Go to their website and they have a lot of useful information.

I took a plastic cable tie and fastened the soil temperature probe right next to the moisture then buried it, so the temperature is right where the probe is at, if you are planning on doing that.  I would, then you get a better picture of what is going on .  I am attaching my gif (url) image.  You can see that 4 inches the ground is frozen and that would correspond to the 200 cb reading at that depth.  the 12inch is beginning to approach freezing point so I would expect it to rise quickly from the 13 cb reading up ...   it does get interesting ... slow to change, but interesting
