Being a railroader I watch a live Rail-Cam in Chesterton. This morning, before work, I was watching the cam and noticed what appeared to be lightning in the distance....but it never moved. The bolts and cloud flashes were always at the same location over the same tree on the cam. This went on for atleast 45 minutes and lasted long enough to believe that if it was a thunderstorm it would have been moving across the sky...but this was stationary.

My question is there maybe a power plant nearby causing a static discharge simulating lightning?? The only cell on that local radar was well up into Lake Michigan.

Possibly the cell was slowly moving directly toward or away from the camera giving the illusion of it being stationary? Just a thought.
