10-24 Inches of Snow
« on: April 16, 2009, 10:23:16 PM »
Well, now that it is the middle of April, the Denver area is trying to catch up on its snowfall.  We are expecting 10 - 24 inches in the next 36 hours or so.

We got five and a half inches overnight and it is still snowing here in Tabernash.  It is a heavy wet snow with no wind.  I am starting to worry about power outages.  Last time we had one of these in April of 2000, I was without power for two days.  I don't really want to go through that again.

I am in Highlands Ranch, CO, just south of Denver.  We have 8 inches so far equating to 0.91 of water content (with my heater), so it is not exactly a light fluffy snow.  Supposed to continue snowing through Saturday afternoon, then 63 degrees on Sunday:)  Got to love colorado weather.  Oh yeah, it was also thundering while dumping snow this afternoon.

It did the same thing in Colorado Springs too. Also a tornado warning went out this afternoon for Truckton, CO. I-70 is closed from Golden to Vail. What else can spring throw at us?

I live near Tabernash, CO.  At 7:00 a.m. I shoveled 5-1/2 inches of snow from my decks.  This was the back deck at 12:50 p.m.

I cleaned the deck off right after I took the picture.  This picture was taken at about 6:30 p.m. and it is still coming down.  Close to 16 inches so far.

I am so ready for spring.

Great snow pictures!  Thanks for sharing!   8-)

It looks like it is coming our way but in the form of 3 more days of rain.   I could use some snow too since as usual I'm behind on my spring duties. I gotta try and get the grass cut tomorrow after work whether my blades are sharp or the cracked drive belt is replaced or not on my Deere.   #-o  With the 3 days of rain the past week it is really growing and I barely had time to get the lube, oil, and filter done during a dry spell.

So far this storm has dumped 21 inches of snow and it is still coming down.

Not sure how well the snow blower is going to handle this.

My drive is almost two tenths of a mile long, and the weather is supposed to turn sunny and in the 50's tomorrow into next week.  I have food and beer, so I just may let the sun clean out the drive next week, since I don't have to go anywhere.  I may try to clean up here just to prevent water problems.

Looking out my walkout basement windows this morning.

Hope you enjoy the pictures.

Down here in the Colorado lowlands (6000 feet), we have gotten 13 inches so far with the snow still coming down pretty hard.  Up to about 1.75 inches of water with this storm, so shoveling is not the easiest.

Here is the front yard yesterday

I decided I had better use the snow blower now while it is still cold.  After an hour and twenty minutes, I can now get out to the road if I want to.  Here is a time lapse of the start of the snow blowing.

My 21 inches had settled to about 18 inches and it was surprisingly dry except the bottom couple inches on the warm ground.  I only registered 1.00 inches in the heated rain gauge.

Wow, cool pictures.  This snowfall plus the blizzard like conditions at the beginning of April.  Seems like you have gotten more snow in April than the rest of the winter.  I know the Canadian Rockies were extremely dry this winter, I dont think they got any of these recent snows...

Hopefully the snow higher up will help somebody with water supply later this spring and summer when it melts.

Let me preface this by saying that it is currently 78.4 F at my house in East Tennessee which is in the South.  Also, let me remind everybody that it is the middle of April.  Springtime.  Warm.

This is from the weather discussion from the Morristown, TN NWS office for east TN:

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MORRISTOWN TN
332 PM EDT SAT APR 18 2009

MODELS INDICATING SOME COOLER TEMPERATURES ALOFT ON MONDAY NIGHT.  COULD SEE A BRIEF RAIN/SNOW MIX IN THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS ON LATE MONDAY NIGHT.

WHAT IS GOING ON HERE????!!!!????  Global Warming?  I don't think so.   ](*,)

Reminds me of what that cook said in the three stooges plumbing episode:  "This house has sure gone crazy!"

It is still dumping snow here right now, but it is a little too warm to stick to the roads and the driveways now.  There is about 17 inches on the ground right now.  Tomorrow it is supposed to make it up to around 60 degrees and it is supposed to make it back into the mid 70s by the middle of the week.  Just another April in Colorado.
