"Search Engine Optimization" email
« on: April 09, 2009, 02:07:49 PM »
I rec'd the below email submission from my contact link on site.  I have CAPTCHA on my form.

I am already on "page one" for google searches, and its not like I am selling anything so I probably would not pay them anything for their service.

Anyone else ever get anything like this?  Do you think its a person or a bot?

Andrew

Up to six of these now.  One april, one may, three in July, and one last night.  Last two from same "person", same IP.

All similar IP's based in India.  5 page views, and 18 minutes to complete form.

Heard about one "optimizer" company that jacks your site from your ISP to their servers by misleading you or redirects your link through their servers so you end up paying them AND your ISP.

Ok, I am almost done with the entire 122.* ip range.  However I will start with the known list.

Is this the correct way to do an exclude in my .htaccess.

Code: [Select]
order allow,deny
deny from 122.161.35.50
deny from 122.173.232.185
deny from 122.173.231.217
deny from 122.162.5.109
deny from 122.160.99.22
deny from 122.173.203.47
deny from 122.162.1.116
allow from all

Only one of these has show up multi times (4 for .99.22).
I dont want to turn off a whole country because of some spammers.  Although I can only see one legitimate visitor from the ISP Airtelbroadband.in   I assume they were legit as they did not hit my contactz.php page.  The spammers use email to send the target links to each other, as my referral always looks like this "http://mail.google.c...attid=f_fzdqpqc30&zw"

Next hit I get I will just change that line to 122.xxx.xxx.* or 122.xxx.*

Thoughts, and am I correct with the format above. The only other thing I have in my .htaccess is a redirect for my weather graphic for another forum.

It worked.  At least my test did.

Is .* the correct way to wildcard?  I have seen just  dot space in examples on the web.

I have two pc's side by side, but they go through two different proxies, so to the internet they appear different.  I put in the ip address of our second work proxy and save the htaccess.  I then treid from pirmary pc and site was fine.  The second one got blocked with an error each time. Awesome.

Now if there was a way to block only a certain page.  I would like to block you know who from my "about" page, but since she uses AOL, and they have broad ip ranges for all north america, I dont want to block legitimates from the rest of the site.

Thanks,
Andrew
