Advice for a public safety station setup with MADIS
« on: July 31, 2016, 05:07:27 PM »
Hello all,

I am currently in the process of setting up a weather station for Public Safety where I work. I am looking for advice on the best setup. This will be placed on top of a 2 story building and will need to upload to MADIS. Thanks in advance

Well, what's your budget? $100 to 5 figures available.

Seriously, with that roll, I'd look into RM Young or maybe Campbell Scientific.

You could buy 4-5 top of the line Davis's for that cash. Don't get me wrong I've had my Davis VP2 for 9 years in the Arizona sun and it rocks along just fine, but it's not an RMY. As far as user friendly, no idea. The Davis however will do what you're after, as long as it's sited properly, as is any wx station.

There's a reason why you see RM Young in gov't/public safety installations.  Or if you want to be part of the science crowd, Vaisala.  Davis is a great pro-sumer system but it is definitely  not top tier.

RM Young and similar usually have government prices.  GAO etc.

This will be placed on top of a 2 story building

That is not a proper location.  If you're going to spend big taxpayer money, you should strive to do it right and find a better site.

Well this is why I am asking on here. To me up above housing developments that surround our building seems logical due to inaccurate readings but I am open to all suggestions

I see some existing Mesonet sites in the area, but I can't tell who's running them.  I see a university group doing them in the Flagstaff area.

If you can get a contact, they can tell you the type of equipment they use and might even have the funding to install a site for you.

Concur. When he said "rooftop" in the post above, I thought  but certain roof mountings can suffice, but are certainly few and far between.
