VVP lost connection with Cumulus and WD
« on: February 17, 2012, 11:49:58 AM »
I installed VVP today for the first time and am running Weather Display and Cumulus together. Twice today VVP has lost connection with both software. I had to restart VVP from a locked position in order to fix the error. I'm running the trial of VVP and was surprised with the issues as it has such a solid rep. Is there anything i should be looking out for that might cause the issues i'm having? My station is a Vantage Vue. Thanks in Advance

Mike

I find that it is necessary to start VVP first and then start the other programs.

If that does not fix it try running WD off of a com port and cumulus via TCP.   I find that works better for some reason.

If you are using a USB data logger it is important that you followed the instructions and told it that it was a sieral logger even though it is not page 14 of the instructions for WL.

Mine looks like this.

Be sure to close and restart VVP after any change.

Running the 2 programs on Tcp at the moment. I see in your set up you recommend having Com 0 in the settings for Cumulus. I had mine at Com 6 so maybe this might make a difference. Thanks for the reply

I'm still having issues as described in my original post but they are becoming more frequent. Beaudog is suggesting to run WD off a com port and Cumulus via TCP but how is this done? I thought the com port is being used by VVP and can't be used by another program??? Any other suggestions on how to fix this issue would be much appreciated as its very annoying to have to restart all my software every second day

Cheers

Mike

you set up VVP to use a virtual com port (paired) that the software connects to
that is how VVP was originaly setup to work before TCP/IP support was added

I tried to get this type of set up to work without success. My data logger is on comport 6 which screwed up things as the virtual driver uses com 6. I'm guessing i need to change my data logger com to something different. I lost connection between VVP and the logger during my trials so returned to my old set up using tcp/ip. I might install the virtual drivers again and give it another try.

Just a quick update to this. Cumulus lost its connection to VVP yesterday but WD was still getting data and working fine. I changed Cumulus to use a Com port instead of TCP so both WD and Cumulus are running using Com ports. I think this should solve the problem of lost connections.

you will find WD is much more stable when using the TCP/IP connection
(that what I use and its solid as a rock for the connection)

Both WD and Cumulus are running fine for the last 4 days using Com ports so i will leave well enough alone for now. If i get any trouble i will switch WD back to TCP/IP and see what happens.
