WS2801.... Good buy?
« on: January 27, 2017, 02:12:16 PM »
Hello friends.
I need to buy a good price / quality weather station.
I can buy a WS2801 Le crosse at very good price (new).
Do you think is a good-buy?

Unless they have changed the plastic they used for the anemometer I noticed it was different plastic than the rain gauge and doesn't hold up to the sun as well. Mine developed cracks after several years and let rain in. Other than that the station was fine.

Yes, I would say a good buy, with a few qualifications. On the plus side, the fact that in comes with rain, wind and temp as separate sensors makes it far more flexible as regards siting than all in one units. This also means that individual items can be easily replaced at relatively low cost.
This brings me on to the downside, that electronics and the outdoors are not an ideal match, and failures of these units are fairly common, although possibly no more than other brands. As regards my own experience, my wind sensor is still running after four years,  my rain sensor failed at three years, as did the temp.
