Atlas aspirating fan
« on: January 02, 2018, 10:00:39 AM »
I just came in from checking my atlas, and for the first time, I could hear the fan running at a turbo speed. I have never heard it run like that before. Could this be the dry cold air, or does it have more than one speed? It is really moving, and the thermometer is 1 F higher than other stations.

I've never heard mine here and the temperatures always read about 3 degrees higher than my radiation shielded tower sensor (about 10 ft away) but it is still about 6 lower than my 5-in-1 in direct sunlight.  When the remote mounting kit for the wind instruments is available and I move it to a more permanent location, I'll inspect it closely to make sure the fan is actually working.  I did hear reports of others actually hearing the fan but I've never heard mine.

I had heard it very faintly before, but lately, it has been running louder. I'm not sure if it is any faster than before though, or if the motor is louder when it's very cold. I haven't experienced any high temperatures with mine, more than 1 degree different than any other, but it is usually lower. The 5n1 is just slightly high 3 F in the day, but at night it can be 5 F too low compared to all others in the 20F or less conditions.
