WS-1401-IP Issues
« on: September 11, 2017, 09:01:49 PM »
Got my unit new on Friday.

First issue, was it took about 6 power cycles for it to get an IP. Upgraded firmware to 4.2.1 and the observerIP still loses connectivity about a dozen times a day, on average it takes 6 power cycles for it to get an IP again. I have this scripted as: I ping the unit once a minute, if 5 pings fail, the unit is powered off for 1 minute, then powered on for 2 minutes, checks ping and repeats, usually comes back-up by 13 minutes.

Twice this evening the outside loses sync with the observerIP and I have to go out in the beating rain and reset the unit. The first time it happened I brought the unit in and put another 3 brand new fully charged rechargeable batteries in too. The observerIP and outside unit are only about 30 feet away with only a brick wall between them.

Any thoughts?

I am starting to think I got someone's return from Amazon or a highly defective unit. I am debating on returning it and getting another brand.

Can anyone recommend one for 150-200

gibby13, congratulation on your new unit, but sorry to hear about your problems. Lets see if we can figure this out.

What is between the OIP and the router handing out IP addresses?
Did you try another network cable?
How may routers do you have on your network? This includes wireless access points as some act as a router run a DHCP service, handing out IP address.

When you loose connection to the OIP (not pingable), run IPTools and see if it can locate the OIP. Also, during this period, what lights are showing on the OIP?

Nothing between OIP and router, I have it plugged directly in, I did have a switch in between but removing the switch didn't make a difference. I also tried a different cable and port on the router.

Only the router hands out DHCP. I have tried changing the OIP from DHCP to static but doesn't really make a difference.

IPTools can not find the OIP when it looses connection, that was my first thought :)

The only lights on when the OIP is not pingable are Power, Link and ACT.

Looks like the OIP reboots itself for some reason. Have you seen the power led flicker on off? Maybe a bad power connection on the OIP or where the power supply plugs into the AC.

I will move it to my desk so I can watch it during the day and see if that is happening.

Can you describe what lights are on, on the OIP. Can you access the OIP at all?

Power, Link and ACT.

I contacted Ambient and they are sending me a new "tested" unit.
