Stiff wind vane and console issue
« on: January 26, 2014, 02:52:30 PM »
I just put my new 1035 into service to replace my old La Crosse 2300.

First issue is that when I pulled the protective tape off of the weather ticker area it left behind quite a bit of glue.  I cleaned it as best as I could but some remained.  The weather ticker is next to impossible to read unless you hold your tongue just right and look sideways.  I this a normal issue?

The wind vane seems to be very stiff.  I watched a Acurite video where they were spinning the vane and there appeared to be little is any resistance.  It will take a stiff breeze to move my wind vane.

The wind vanes should spin with no resistance, and I believe that I saw a posting here at one point saying that they were among the best at measuring low speeds among the different manufacturers.

There are common complaints in Acurite's own support forums about the general readability of the ticker screen.  Setting it to slow speed makes it bearable on mine, but I generally don't even look at it any more.....

Thanks - that is what I figured about the wind vane.  My old La Crosse 2300 is showing  the correct direction.  As for the ticker it is not a big deal.  Overall the contrast of the unit is poor. But I just glance at it once in awhile.
