these same people who choose socialism and elected a socialist government are now unhappy with skyrocketing prices.  What did they think would happen? How many examples of failure do they need.

$2.29 in North Dakota.  It was a slow decline here.  Just dropped the last dime yesterday.

#2 oil producer in the continent.  But no refineries near here.  So we're usually a bit above the national average.

Down again to $1.85 at Murphy's in Stillwater.  Most other stations in town have it at $1.89.  The price of oil has taken a dive to under $50 a barrel, so more gas price declines will probably come.  The price drop came from report of inventories at the U.S. oil storage hub of Cushing, Oklahoma having risen more than 1 million barrels from Dec. 11 to 14.

Speaking of Cushing, I took a Sunday afternoon drive to there.  It's just 25 miles away.  I saw the town's large prison south of town for the first time. Then went downtown and saw the traffic lights still flashing red at every intersection as if sadly signaling the town is still trying to recover from the November 2016 earthquake of 5.0 magnitude.  Many old stores were damaged at least a little. 1 or 2 buildings had to be leveled.  Despite its famous oil tank farms, Cushing was already slowly declining before the earthquake.    On the way back home, I turned north too soon and came upon a bunch of oil tank farms spread out across the countryside before finding my way to Highway 18 and home.  I didn't know so many tanks were north of Cushing, having previously thought most of them were just to the south of town.   Merry Christmas at the gas pump.

One of the oil tank farms just to the north of Cushing.

WTI and Brent crude have nosedived recently.
WTI at this moment is down to $46.38/bbl, lowest in almost two years; seriously falling for the last two months, from a ~$76 high in Oct.

The Russians, the largest OPEC producers, have ramped up their production this month (Vlad Puty sending a msg to his BFF?), and American fracking ops have been pushing their record production numbers up too.
If it goes much lower there's a good chance of another 'oil bust', like in 1985*, et al. Approaching the $40/bbl mark most fracking ops are going way below their breakeven cost point, at that level some of them will begin shut-in procedures and begin laying off staff. New exploratory wells, workovers, and wells nearing production will have ops suspended.

* 1985, I remember it well. It was maybe the worst Texas recession I've ever seen, the hit to Houston was incredible. The housing boom statewide was over in a few months, real estate prices dropped like stones and didn't recover for a couple of years.
Even at home in the Valley, a brand new, just opened shopping mall, the first major one there, remained nearly empty during the Xmas season. Made for some great uncrowded shopping trips.

Our local price war between HEB and Murphys got it down to $1.98 and I filled up again. But generally this is a great Christmas for folks traveling. In years past I'd have loved it, now my travels are into town to get a 6pak - and they don't seem to have beer wars?

Happy Holidays to all.
On Christmas Day noticed $1.81.9 reg gas prices on the far NW of San Antonio (IIRC, diesel was ~$2.14).
WTI crude was fixing to fall through $42/bbl, but is up slightly this AM, at $43.14.

Paid $2.33 here last night, most gas prices in the area are a bit higher though, generally hovering between $2.39 and $2.49.

Last month I came across a gas station in Brooklyn charging well over $4.00 per gallon, that’s the highest I’ve ever seen in my (driving) life, more expensive than even Manhattan (of all places), I would’ve gotten out and pushed before paying that. You can still find cheap gas in/near NYC though, if you know where to look.

Now at $1.75 at Murphy's as pictured.  It's my favorite place to get gas, since it's usually consistent about having the cheapest gas price in town and is on my side of town.  Happy New Year.

Paid $2.19 last night. That’s the lowest price I’ve ever paid for gas, granted I’ve only been driving for 4 years.

Ha, the other day when I was pumping at $1.82 and talking to the lady next to me and we were laughing about remembering when we were young and gas was $.25 per gallon. I always kept $.50 when out on a date just to be sure I could get enough gas to get home - ah, the good old days.

I remember a trip to the 1966 Indianapolis 500 and filling up on 15¢ hamburgers during the weekend.
Prices 1966
Cost of a new home:    $23,300.00
Cost of a first-class stamp:    $0.05
Cost of a gallon of regular gas:    $0.32
Cost of a dozen eggs:    $0.60
Cost of a gallon of Milk:    $0.99
and I made $80 a week!

The big change was around 1973 when gas first went over a buck (an imperial gallon), and then they changed to litres so the price would not look so bad.  Now at just below or above C$1 /lr but has been at over $1.30 over the past year as well.

Enjoy,
Paul

There's a Walmart with a Murphys and a QuikTrip up the street from me who consistently try and best each other for gas prices.  For the most part QT sets the price in Tulsa because there are so many of them and they advertise guaranteed gasoline -- meaning that if any mechanical issues in your car can be attributed to gasoline, QT's gasoline -- then QT will pay for any repair cost incurred.

$1.75 here also.
