Degree Symbol button for message/post editing
« on: July 12, 2014, 08:53:51 AM »
Could a degree symbol button be added to the editor for the forum? "°"
It would be much more convenient than copy/pasting it from other sources. (yeah, I know there is an "alt code" somewhere, but I would have to look that up)

With the repeated need for degrees in our posts for temperature or even wind direction, it would be very handy. If it can be done for "emoticons" it should be possible for the ° symbol.

The code will stick in your memory if you use it often enough- 'Alt-0176'.

If you're running Windows, hit the 'Start Button'-'All Programs'-'Accessories'-'System Tools'-'Character Map', and voila, there are all of the special characters you will ever need.  'Alt-0169' is another that I have at my command. :-) I have to look up all others.

Copy and Paste will also work if you have an example at hand.

I know about these methods, but I would still like to have the more convenient button...

I agree, having the more convenient button would be nice.

Use it or lose it!  How many people, especially women, under the age of 55 can drive a stick shift?  All they know is accelerator or brake pedal.  Sometimes it's all you can do to get them to use the same foot for those pedals.  I hate following nitwits who obviously ride the brake with their left foot!

I agree that it would be convenient, but there is always a downside to such conveniences.  In this case, however, I think the downside is minimal... :-)

Ok... I found a mod that changes the Post edit screen to add multiple entries for single-click insert.

Degree: °
Fractions: ¼½¾
Copyright: ©
International characters: ô ë ï
Greek: µ
Math: ±

Happy?  \:D/

Best regards,
Ken

Thank you sir! To the nth°.... \:D/

I also like the µ in case we are talking about the microFarads... (or Henries, or whatever units that have micro-something)

Once again because it is a weather forum, it would be cool to have weather emoticons like a storm cloud, lightning bolt, sun, etc...

When I was learning about electricity and water chemistry and stuff, we learned about resistance and conductivity.  Resistance is measured in ohms and is the opposite of conductivity which is measured in mhos.  I always thought that was very logical.   :-k

I learned that there is also opacity (from diesel and coal stacks) and transparency, but that's measured in %, not units.

There are some other weather forums that have drowning and shivering smiles and stuff.  Nice to have, but I'm happy with what we now, too.

For anyone using Firefox or Seamonkey, there is a 'BBCode Extra' Add-on that has some functions included and allows you to add a number of Custom Codes to use via Right-Click.

Yep, back in the old days, conduction in vacuum tubes was measured in micro-mhos of current,

And it took a Curly and a Larry to counter a Mho?
