Replace Sensors or buy new? WS2317
« on: September 01, 2010, 02:43:42 PM »
Currently have a La Crosse WS-2317, I've had it for a little over a year and the rain guage stopped working about 6-8 months ago, then this week the wind speed stopped being reported.  I've torn the entire thing apart in a hope that it's just a bad connection or some water in one of the units but I think those two sensors are just totally dead.  It hasn't been maintenance free and I'd say I've probably taken the entire station apart several times to bring it back to life.

I've got everything wired the way I want it and have a dedicated computer in the basement running the WUHU software.

Question is should I:

A) Just spend the $50-70 to replace the sensors?
B) Spend $100 on a new La Crosse station (which one)
C) Spend $100-200 on another station that I will be more happy with
D) Spend > $200 and get another station that won't break so often

Requirements:
Needs to be able to do RapidFire updates

The type of station you get is entirely up to your budget and your level of frustration.  I have three different types and they're all doing well (at the moment).  I guess the Davis has been the easiest to set up and least trouble.  I use WUHU on each station and have rapidfire (well as rapid as you can get at 26.4 kbs).  Stick with WUHU and you'll have rapid fire.

Good luck!

If you want inexpensive Costco has the La Crosse WS2812 for ~$80. As long as they fixed the rain doubling problem it should be an OK choice.
