New Posts Since Last Visit?
« on: October 13, 2007, 08:42:10 PM »
Can that be added back into the new design?  I really miss that option.  Also some forums I visit have "New Posts Last 24 Hours" and "New Posts Past Week".  Comes in handy if you miss a day or two for some reason or other.  Just wondering....

Show unread posts since last visit appears above for me.  It hadn't been working correctly for me, but just did this last time in.

It disappeared for me last night.  I just found something interesting though.  In Firefox if I turn off "Page Style" in the view menu those options at the top come back.  Using IE7 the options at the top are also missing.    :-k

That is odd.. I tried IE7 and it worked fine to show the two search options after logging in (see below).

I did find two annoying JavaScript 'breaks' in the smfFader javascript, so I'll work on correcting that.

Mark, would you post a screen capture of your display-without-search-options?

I'll look around to see if there's a mod for searching for posts last 72hrs/last week available.

Thanks,
Ken

Here ya go Ken..

I do still have the "recent posts" at the bottom which is what I've been using after the other options at the top disappeared.

Mark,
I think you can click on the little + box at the right of the screen and expand the header to show your avatar and the links.

Give that a try

Best regards,
Ken

You're welcome Mark.  I found out about the Collapse/Expand buttons the hard way.. my stuff disappeared too :-o

I'm still learning the ins/outs of SMF forum (both install/maintain, and USE).  I think we'll be offering a choice of templates for the forum soon now, and some don't have the Collapse/Expand buttons.  The problem with additional themes is the mods only install on the basic theme (looks like this one), so mods have to be refitted to other themes (more work for the admins, and we're fairly lazy  ).

Glad it's working for you again.

Best regards,
Ken

You sure?  I thought SMF addressed that issue somehow.  That was the one big thing I didn't like about phpBB is that you had to re-mod everything after an update.

Then again, maybe it's just the version updates that don't have to be re-modded in SMF.

Ken,

I just came back in and it reported no new posts since last visit.  Could I have a setting wrong somewhere?

How long ago were you here last?  This isn't a real high volume board; I've seen it go 24 hours or more with no new posts.

And Sundays seem to be particularly slow. There has been a definite increase in volume over the last couple of weeks though.

I looked at the XML control files for the updates, and they seem to have onl $Default as the theme mentioned in the HTML updates .. that points to the Themes/default directory only.  That was why I was hesitant to install other themes, but we will offer a choice for folks in the near future.

Back a day later and it showed no unread posts for me.   Hmmm.

Sometimes logging out and clearing the cache and cookies will resolve that for me.  Also be sure your favorite or bookmark is http://www.wxforum.net with no extra characters or numbers on the end of it.

I use http://www.wxforum.net/index.php?action=unread as my bookmark, and it works for me.  I do it "Mark all as read" after viewing, but it works if I view all the unread posts first (and don't hit "mark all as read".

I agree with Mark, try logging out, clearing the wxforum.net cookies, and logging in again.  I also use 'stay logged in' with my signon.

Hope this helps...

Ken

Ken,

This time in 5 new posts showed up so I guess it's working for me now.  I think I'll go ahead and clear the cache etc anyway.

Thanks.  - Jim

The old board had "post in the last 7 days" - that would be nice too.  Just a thought.
