'Missing reports' on Weatherink
« on: September 25, 2012, 08:04:51 AM »
Hi, I have just noticed that several reports I had on my 5.1 version of weatherlink are not showing on my updated 6.0 version. The missing reports are:-

Degree Days
Temp Hum Hours
Soil Temp Hours
Chilling requirement

Are these reports still available, as for example, as an 'add on', or could I somhow export them from my backup files of my 5.1 version of Weatherlink, any advice on this would be helpful, thanks.

Those are only available when the Ag/Turf module is added to Weatherlink.  I think that module would also have been necessary with WL 5.1 to have had them available.

Edit: I think there was an earlier version of WL when some of them were included, but Davis separated them out into the Ag/Turf module and added more agricultural report functionality.

Thanks d_l, but if your assumption is correct and that I was originally sold Ag/turf module (which I certainly didn't ask for), would I now be able to download these reports into my recently downloaded 6.0 version, as I have actually found a couple of them useful over the years. Do you think this is possible?

I'm not d_l, but I would suggest doing the following:

A.  Download the Ag/turf module, install it, and see what happens.  Of course, carefully back up your current situation before trying that.  I suspect that it's likely to work.  Please report back what happens.

B.  If that doesn't work, then send email to Davis, describing your history and so forth.  Davis may easily help.

Thanks dalecoy, that's a good idea, I may well give it a try.

d_l's suggestion rings a bell. Trouble is we're talking about WL versions a (relatively) long time ago and it's difficult to recall the details.

But the Ag/Turf module (6511) is not free. There is a downloadable update to v1.1.0 but I suspect that won't do anything without the original Ag/Turf module installed.

WL 5.1 is an earlier version than any I've used.  I can't say for sure if those reports were included in that version at that time or not. The last Ag/turf module version was introduced circa mid-2006.

Maybe one way to tell if you were originally sold the Ag/turf module is to look in the Weatherlink folder for the Expansion_Module Sub-Folder and in it for the AgModule.dll.  Your WL upgrade would have left that folder alone.

If you have the module in the folder, then all you have to do is enable it or add/enable it by the File > Manage Modules commands.  If the module isn't there, then you would have to cosider purchasing it.

Hello johnd and d_l, I have looked in the Expansion_Module Sub-Folder and it is empty, but d_l I can assure you that the missing reports I've mentioned were definitely in my 5.1 version of WL, I've just updated. This being the case, couldn't I copy/export the necessary files from my 5.1 version of WL I've kept as a back up. However I have had a good look in this back up folder and I can't see a folder named modules or anything like it, so I wouldn't know what to copy in any case. I'm totally in the dark, with this issue, I'm afraid.

In reading your other thread, johnd mentioned just how old WL 5.1 was and that the database for that version required an import to upgrade to 5.2 or later.  I'm still thinking that Davis separated those reports out into the Ag/turf module after WL 5.1.

I can't say how Davis structured the file folders for those reports in WL 5.1, but now with the Ag/turf module, there are DegDays and CROP sub-folders within your folder for your station. The CROP folder stores the ET, irrigation, and rainfall data for the period of time that you set up and I guess this feature was probably added to Ag/turf module when it was separated from WL.  I don't know where the other three reports are stored as I don't use them much.  They seem to just pop up notepad windows.

So I think you will have to purchase the module to regain that lost functionality.  Whether or not you can retrieve and re-use any historical Degree Day data that you might have had is another question.  BTW, the Degree Day function on the Ag/turf module is for timing plant and pest development.  I mention this just in case the WL 5.1 Degree Days were used for heating/cooling calculations.

Why not contact Davis, explain the background,  and ask?

Yes, I thank that contacting Davis is probably the best solution if I wish to persue this matter.

I have however discovered that there is a bit of a workaround for my dilemma. After a bit of exploring my old 5.1 version (that I kept as a backup) I have found out that it is all still live and therefore I could generate these missing reports I require by closing my 6.0 version and opening the older version, the only fag with that is that I would have to regularly have to download, from the data logger, otherwise data would be lost (I have my archive interval set at 10 min.which works well for me), but I may well give this a try before contacting Davis.

Actually, I've just had another thought - to save me worrying about losing data, couldn't I just copy the current station folder from the 6.0 WL to the 5.1 WL across, each time I require these reports, or am I missing something else here?

On a related question, which may be another workaround, is it possible to have more than one station open at the same time?

Multiple instances of WL can be running simultaneously when each is connected to different ISS stations.

Edit: I don't think multiple versions of WL can be running simultaneously connected to the same station.  For one thing WL upgrades install in the same WL folder and would use the same databases, so likely Windows would lock out the second WL version from accessing your data.

Would VirtualVP be an option and put each copy of WL on a separate comm port?  http://softwx.com/weather/virtualvp.html  Or would one copy of WL interfere with the other?

Yes - the v5.1 and v6 database formats are different.

No (at least not in the sense that I'm guessing you mean - but you can seemingly set more than one station to auto-download in the background).

Thanks guys, for all your input. I haven't made any positive decisions yet on how to proceed, I'll wait to see if you WL specialists throw up any other ideas.

Hi all, - Just thought I would give you all a 'catch up' on what has happened regarding these missing reports.

Firstly, I tried to download the Ag/turf module, but it didn't work because it wasn't recognised as being 'already installed' into the modules folder of WL. So I contacted Davis and explained the history to them and the bottom line is, as the 'missing reports' were originally included with my 5.1 version of WL they were more than happy to send me the Ag/turf module, free of charge and I now have all the reports back with me.

So there we are, I suppose the moral of this story is, it's always worth asking, at the worst, they can only say no. So thanks all you guys, for all your help and advise - great forum.
