Tragic volcanic event in Japan

Apparently no warning or unusual volcanic or seismic activity.  Very sad, an idyllic fall day on the mountain gone wrong.  I know we are getting better at monitoring and predicting volcanic activity, but mother nature can still show her force without notice.
