Widespread Severe Weather/Tornado Outbreak For 03/02/12
« on: March 02, 2012, 02:01:43 AM »
The SPC and The Weather Channel are both forecasting a major severe weather and tornado outbreak today, over much of the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys. Here is the forecast for tornadoes:

Very strong wording from the Nashville, TN NWS. If you live in the moderate risk area, BE PREPARED! This could be a very significant tornado outbreak:

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NASHVILLE TN
329 PM CST THU MAR 1 2012

DISCUSSION...A BIG SEVERE WX OUTBREAK IS EXPECTED FOR MID TN FRIDAY. STRONG LONG TRACK TORNADOES...DAMAGING WINDS AND LARGE HAIL ARE ALL POSSIBLE. SPC CONTINUES TO POST A MODERATE RISK FOR SEVERE WEATHER OVER THE MID STATE. THIS EVENT LOOKS MORE WIDESPREAD AND SUBSTANTIAL THAN THE SEVERE THREAT WE HAD YESTERDAY...PROBABLY THE BIGGEST OUTBREAK OF TORNADOES SINCE APRIL 27, 2011. THIS EVENT COULD BE ONE OF THE GREATER IMPACT EVENTS IN THE PAST FEW YEARS. THE PUBLIC SHOULD BE STRONGLY ADVISED TO TAKE THIS THREAT VERY SERIOUSLY.

It's going to be an interesting day.  Of course when I have a day off and have plans to work outside, the weather gets lousy.   ](*,)

Slow, you're either in the HIGH Risk zone or real close to it.

Yeah, the more they look at it, the more severe they say it's going to be.  Luckily, I have a storm shelter if it gets too bad.  We've had to duck in there before (last April during the tornado outbreak), so we know the drill.

Did not expect a high risk today.  Thought moderate for sure, but not high.  Man I hope everyone is paying attention.  Thank God it should be a daylight event.

I think the worst of the weather should get here around midnight.   8-[

I'll have to force myself to take a nap this afternoon!

Well, I guess I spoke too soon.  It's starting already.  But this is not the severe squall line that's going to come through this evening.

The tornado warning shown (red box) is about 90 miles from me.

Well I am located just about in the middle of the red zone here in KY. It definitely looks like a bad weather day outside. 85% humidity with a high of 75 then dropping about 37degrees to a low of 38 tonight.

OK, we're back in from the storm shelter.  We had a tornado go to the north of us.  It never touched down  (so far) but we could plainly hear it.  It was a low, constant roar.

There is what looks like a serious long-lived tornado that came out of Alabama and went through Chattanooga heading northeast.  The local TV mets are staying on talking about it, and they're reporting a tree blew over onto a school bus (no kids were on the bus).

And this still isn't the main event.  That is suppose to happen this evening.

Just spoke to my niece in Somerset, KY. They have a tornado watch for their area. The worst of the storms are due in her area (south central Ky) late this afternoon and evening. My sister in Otto, NC is also under a sever thunderstorm watch.

Looks like that whole area is going to get hammered today.

For all of you living in these areas, please take care!

It's so hard to keep track of what's what because there are so many storms spinning.  Plus I'm trying to get some work done.

Be safe everyone.  Eyes on the sky.
