Wireless Webcams for Weather Display
« on: July 01, 2012, 05:10:13 PM »
Is there a list or anyone tell me IP cams they use with Weather Display?

Spent 3 hours with a D Link DCS-930L and finally have figured out that
with the built in web server, there's no getting around that to stream using WD.

try this for your IP address.  this is mine:

http://192.168.0.21/IMAGE.JPG

substitute your IP of your DCS 930L  for this one and try this

I have that on my webcam and it works for  my dlink.  The part that sucks.. the wireless doesn't work, so I have this very long ethernet cable hooked around the house..

I hadnt even gotten that far in all that time to even finding the image.
I could log into the cam, but it brings you to the darn mydlink.com site to view it.

I really like it to stream with the WD Webcam program.

Thanks!

yes, then set up the IP address, should you want to FTP it to your site. If you don't you can access it via the IP address in your network.

go over to the Wdisplay site, there http://www.weather-watch.com/smf/are posted information there on how to set up WD for that. Wxforum is not as detailed as

there is a program within weather display  wdwebcamcapture.exe. that is the image capture.  it needs to be set
I'll send you the settings for this, you will need to right mouse and hide, not close after setting it.  It has to run.   I'll try to send to your hot mail acct.

I also sent you an email to your hotmail account.   let me know if  you have any problems opening it. it is a zip file

Thanks.

I've been using the WD Webcamcapture program since the beginning of my site.
I'm off Wed-Sun so I have something to play with now.

it sounds easy to set up,but it involves tweaking and that.   For a time there instead of putting my IP in,  I had the camera send an image via FTP to a folder in on my website, then that url address in the webcam spot and had it grab it there.

Then one day the program started accepting the IP.  I have no reason why.  let me know if you have any questions.  I'll be out of town next week and won't be doing the internet thing.

If you're using a true IP camera, you might consider wiring it to a much more powerful bridge.  My 'PatioCam' is wired, which I did after much frustration with crashed wireless connections, but my 'StreetCam' is wired to a bridge:  http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B004FMI3DA/.  I experience occasional camera outages, but nothing like I did when I was trying to use direct wireless with a D-Link webcam.  Both camera are now StarDot Netcams, which is probably overkill, but they are very reliable, and they stream via their own DynDns addresses.
VWS was my weather software when I began using a webcam, and I used ImageSalsa for processing the static images.  The images are still processed this way after the StarDots ftp them to a weather computer directory.  I've largely given up on continuously connected wireless via adapters.  This computer and a companion are connected via another wireless bridge on the 5G band, http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B0062K5JAI/, which has been utterly reliable since I installed it.  The bridges have eliminated my chronic connectivity headaches.  I'm using the same router, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833122326, but now without the connection problems the adapters gave me.

Just a different approach to consider.  YMMV.

I have 4x FOSCAM FI-8905 webcams running and uploading... one of those images from being grabbed by WD mainly so I can transfer the Weather Underground image. The others being uploaded by the 3rd party cam software. Great pics and flawless.

I am frustrated.  Feel like a imbecile.  I can not get my IP webcam set up in Weather-Display.  My goal is to set up to work on the face of the program then later have it upload to my web page.

Took less than 5 minutes to get it working on WeatherUnderground..... no issues.

If somebody will take the time to email me step by step...idiot proof instructions...I'd be grateful.  ...
