I received the Hik yesterday in a brown box. Im going to attempt a configuration and will share the experience once I plug it in. From what Ive read so far the only difference is multi-language support and English needs to be selected on setup. Seems simple enough.

After opening the box up and inspecting the camera, I decided to ship it back. The quality of the camera in my opinion was poor. On the bottom of the camera there was a removable small cover with 2 screws that I felt could possibly allow water intrusion. Also, the overall weight of the camera was much less which tells me the housing is made up of a different material. The cable length was a little longer but there is some kind of filtering device attached in-line that was much larger which would cause a problem with how I run these cameras. Overall, I am not impressed and would stay clear of any camera that gets shipped in a brown box. Oh, and one more thing to add, the logo on the outside of the camera was labeled in Chinese. This is another way to tell right away if you received the wrong one. Anybody who orders these cameras from Amazon and receives an English version (red and white box) please share the supplier name and/or link so we can avoid this in the future. A list of "good" suppliers would be very helpful.

4 of my 6 cameras came in brown box. I can't remember selecting English but maybe I did. I first use SADP English version to find camera, set IP address and gateway, save new password before ever logging in using browser. Haven't had issues with Chinese language. All writing on cameras are in Chinese.
Another tool I've used is ivms-4200 on just one of my cameras, I can no longer access through browser after doing a (mistake) firmware upgrade.

WOW   I just got one a couple days ago have not fired it up waiting on POE injector. But mine came in a red white box.

I think it is the most solid camera I have had. The case is all metal it is twice or three times as heavy as my Panasonic 140.

There is no door on the bottom. It has about a 14 inch pig tail that splits into Ethernet and a power plug, no filter or torid of any kind. The Ethernet connector has a wx proof screw on cover.

There is no logo on mine just the name HIKVISION on both sides

Looks like this:

It has 3 stickers on it all in English.

Bought thru Amazon shipped by NetView.    They admit it is grey market and say not to contact Hikvision for support but to contact netviewllc.com

The cam is in a metal case the mount is plastic.  $108 total price with shipping.

Beau,
Where did you order it from so we can add it to the supplier list?

My red and White boxes came from XINRAY . Others in brown boxes from NetView but it does say U.S. Retail Version in ad.  Also got a brown box from IExcellence no longer on Amazon. Everything from Amazon worked brown or red & white for me and didn't notice a plug difference but may of missed something being cameras were mounted.

My Hiki came in a brown box with nothing but Chinese documentation. Randy turned me on to the iVMS-4200 software (which also runs on Macs, BTW) and I was able to get to the cam, change the IP address and get it all going. I haven't got it streaming because I don't have it installed yet. Just got my 500 foot roll of Cat6 and tools so I can run the line out to the pole. One step at a time...

Mine is up and running. I do not have a web site but the picture on WU is far better that the Panasonic 140 ever was.

I think this is a good camera. Time will tell.    Getting to the camera and changing the IP was kinda frustrating.   But once you figure it out all goes well. The two programs that come with the camera were helpful. IMV 4200 might even work as an FTP uploader.   I can not tell if the server is built into the camera or if you have to run IMV 4200 all the time.   Still playing with it.

The only program so far that seems to work well is Webcam XP.

So Mike, you're using spider webs for guy wires? Black Widows have some extremely strong filaments!

You have a great solution to the mount! I went to HD today and bought the exact Junction Box you have in the pix at about $7. Ears to attach the box to the pole, weather tight box for the connections, and it even came with the plugs for the ports and gasket for the cover!

Just wondering what gasket you used between the Hiki and the lid? I plan to mount mine with the hole in the base down so any moisture can run out, and run the wires through a hole I make in the JBox lid. Did you use wood screws or bolts through the lid to mount the camera?

Great application!  =D>

The screws that came with the camera, drill tiny pilot holes. Mast mount uses 2 stainless U-bolts. Drill holes in box bottom. Camera will act like a heavy counter weight..didn't trust the box's ears... possible deterioration etc.  Made a gasket out of Scotch 2242 tape.. mast mount cam pivot and shaft also wrapped with the 2242.  Same tape used to seal cable connections.
...the other two mountings use different 'attachment'  approaches,.. birdcam to pipe end, other (snowcam) to a small planter stand, for easy location change seasonally.. Didn't 'hide' wires inside box, for several reasons. left them outside, though, like you, my original thought was to do that... .
... be creative! Part of the fun!

So it turns out I happened to have some pole clamps on the bench in the basement.

Clamps + 1/4" aluminum coated HPDE stock + stainless hex cap screws and lock nuts = camera mount.

Nothing fancy.  I assume the cat5 connection is weather tight though I might monkey back up there and throw some dielectric grease in it.  I wrapped the 12V connection with self-vulcanizing rubber tape capped with some heat shrink tubing.

My Hiki came through Amazon from a place called Uvistar, but I have not seen this distributor since my late August order. The price was under $90, and I haven't seen a price under $100 since. -m2c

Actually, mine came in a brown box with only Chinese docs and I was sure I was screwed, but I was able to download an En User Man at

http://overseas.hikvision.com//uploadfile/image/20150506093317056.PDF

and Randy (ValentineWeather) pointed me toward iVMS-4200 software which also works on Macs.

The manual listed the IP of the camera as 192.168.1.64, but that was wrong. The iVMS found the camera and the right IP, which I was able to easily change and get the camera running. I just have to find a good place to mount it now.

Like the street view. Looks like a new neighborhood, it should give better idea of weather conditions plus serves as a security camera.
