Who all uses your data?
« on: October 16, 2018, 11:19:04 PM »
I was googling some stuff this evening and decided to google my CWOP ID trying to find that place where they keep an compare the data (some college or something, I haven't found it yet.  The memory is going ya know).

Anyway, I saw a link that said, "Don't get blown away by the weather in DW0148 Euchee TN US. WindAlert has the latest weather conditions, winds, forecasts, nearby currents, and alerts for ..."

This made me curious to see who was using my data.  Turns out there's an outfit that uses cwop data (or at least mine).  I suppose consent is buried in the terms of service for cwop.  But I was kind of surprised to see it.

Has any one else ran across something like this for your data?  Is there a way to know who all is using the data we're uploading?  It seems like we should be getting a little something for our efforts.

Like this? https://mesowest.utah.edu/cgi-bin/droman/mesomap.cgi?state=MI&rawsflag=3

This link is for Michigan, but this is easily changed for your location.

I have not watched for my CWOP data, but about a year ago the number of views on my WU page jumped from 5-10 per day to 100+ per day. I never did find out who was hitting it, but the local ABC affiliate has a "Skywatch Weather Camera" network that uses a time lapse from my weather camera several times a week.

I thought that sounded right (and it may very well be).  I had it bookmarked on a computer that died and, you know how that goes.  :(

I'll find it again one of these days.

Thanks for the response.  :)

I've built a pretty good list of where CWOP data ends up being used over in the CWOP section...
