Just setup WMR200 Need help in selecting software
« on: March 23, 2011, 07:27:26 PM »
I am new to monitoring the weather... however, i have always been fascinated by it.

So, here I am with a nice new shiny WMR200 and need some help on choosing the best software... I have look at a lot of the postings and think that most people are using the Ambient Weather software. I want to be able to post my site on the web... some day.

Any suggestions are welcomed.

Thanks,

Joe

Weather Display has the most options as far as displaying information on a website. If you are not interested in having a website, then either Virtual Weather Station from Ambient or Weather Display is fine. For a more basic piece of software, there is also Weather Station Data Logger, which does provide some internet upload capability if you eventually choose to go that route. Hope this helps.

I would start out with Virtual Weather Station. It is less complex and busy than Weather display. Weather Display is crowded with features. I myself think that it is too overwhelming and I don't like it. Its just too busy. I run VWS and I'm happy. :-)

Use my software! Use my software!   :-P   =D>   \:D/

Okay, just kidding (I feel like I'm being baited!)  ;)

Seriously though, please take a look a Weather Station Data Logger. This freeware package is slanted towards data logging and graphical display of data but also offers client/server operation within a home network and many internet upload options including FTP web page support. The current Beta version also supports collection (and internet upload) of history data from the WMR200. It is under active development on SourceForge at this time and novice user questions and feedback is welcomed.

It may or may not be what you are looking for but is worth a look...

Current Beta release download is here:

Cheers!

Of course there's always Cumulus http://sandaysoft.com/products/cumulus and WuHu http://home.comcast.net/~wuhu_software/ , both online and free (donationware). I use WuHu on two weather stations, both uploading to several sites inc. my web site and really like it!

Cumulus doesn't support the WMR200 or WMR100 stations. When it does, I may give it a try as well.

  WOW! there are a lot of options. I guess I better start doing some research.

Andy, I understand there are two or three options for the VWS software... should I shoot the moon and have what I need for the future? Are the advantages worth it?

Thanks to ALL!

Joe

PS... this is a great site!

Well, if you want to go "old school" I've been on VWS for 4 years and it works fine, I've looked at others, but as noted, very busy and complicated, I'm retired so simple is good, to that end I use FrontPage for my website, again, old, simple and no hassles or brain cramps.

Rather new to this myself, but my choice is the package from http://www.wviewweather.com/.   Being a Linuxhead, Windows is no alternative for me.  It has a full featured website included, and highly configurable.
