Weather Networks and E-Rice.net
« on: August 24, 2008, 05:04:06 PM »
Is anyone a member of the Weather Networks, such as South West Weather Network or South East Weather Network and using E-Rice.net as your web hosting provider?

If so, has anyone had or having a problem with "caching" of the clientraw.txt from WD?  It appears that since I moved to E-rice.net a week ago my Southeast Weather Network continually shows me as offline.  It appears that an "old" file is being served up instead of the current clientraw.txt.  The clientraw.txt is, in fact, current.

I have cheked permissions, re-booted the computer and a variety of other thing with no success.  E-Rice says they do not cache files.

Everything else works fine since the move.

HELP!

Many thanks!

Al...

I've been using E-Rice for over two years and have not had that problem.

I use e-rice and did notice that one day last week. But it also cleared up fairly quickly and hasn't been a problem since.

I think we've located the problem and it's in an unusual place.  The HostGator webserver has a stale DNS cache so when it looked up rockycreekweather.com, it got an old IP address, not the new IP address at e-rice ..  I've asked Chris to contact HostGator to fix the stale DNS problem on the server hosting southeasternweather.net and put a quick patch in place to bypass the issue until HostGator gets it fixed.

You never expect your hoster (a big one at that) to have chronic DNS lookup issues ( gethostbyname() should work right all the time) :(

Best regards,
Ken
