WU Animated GIFs?
« on: February 11, 2018, 10:08:07 PM »
I have been using a link to a WU animated gif that shows the eastern pacific and a portion of the USA. I have no idea where I got the URL but it is as follows:
It has a nice animated image but is only 320 x 240 pixels. What is confusing is that in the URL, a portion of the directory referenced says "640x480" which would lead one to assume the image would be 640 x 480. I have searched the WU website but have been unable to find any images that look like this one. I am really looking for one similar to the one listed above (and animated) but that is at least 640 x 480 in size.

Try this:

Thanks! That is exactly what I was looking for. How did you find the link? They used to have a directory of available images but I haven't been able to find such things in a long time. The WU Maps Catalog is very limited.

I've been on WU for almost two decades and have gotten pretty good at guessing their naming systems.  8-)

Glad it worked out for you.

I know this post is a bit old, but wondering if anyone out there knows what happened to (or an alternative to) some of the WU images?

For the last couple years I've used:
http://maps.wunderground.com/data/640x480/2xpa_vi_anim.gif

And now it's gone (not sure when, or where it went).  It was the best for us in Northern (real northern) California, as it covers Redding CA, up through Washington, which is the areas of most interest here (Weed, CA).

Thanks!

Hi Sean,
There've been a bunch of updates to the Saratoga template set, including replacement of the WU images.
Use https://weather.lavacrawlers.com/check-fetch-times.php?show=versions to see what needs updating and get a link to all the updates.

Hello Ken,

Yeah we've spoken about this before.  i started to look up the updated file list, and if I wanted to stay with Burnsville or not.  It's going to be a bunch of work to get it all updated I think as I feel like I've edited a ton of the files to get things just right for here.  I guess I'll start that process and see where I end up.

In just looking for a similar image to what I had, I can't find one anywhere.  It was a nice IR satellite image that would show the clouds/storm rolling into our region.

I'll get working on the update this week!
Thanks
Sean
