Firmware 4.18 upgrade on Mac
« on: February 08, 2018, 03:35:09 PM »
Hi

I have a Imac and I would like to perform a firmware update from Ver 3 to Ver 4.18 on my 6351 console.

I only see an executable file (DirectFromPC_Vue_4_18.exe) from the Davis support section.

How can I do that on a Imac ?

Thanks for you help.

Just make sure your Vue console has a Mfg code of MB or higher otherwise update is of no benefit

I have MJ14121615x written on it. Model 6250  product 6351

So if I understand, might as well leave it as it is.

Thanks for the info.

I have a problem with the 2 consoles, they both tell me that the ISS battery is low.

I was hoping that if I update this should help because I went into setup mode on both consoles and changed the ISS ID to number 2 and went back to 1 after and the message disappeared.

I have 4 feet of snow on my roof so I am not inclined to mount the Everest if I can wait till spring.

MJ Mfg code will accept Fw 4.18 but it is only an update for barometer

As for 2 consoles saying ISS battery low then that tends to mean the ISS battery is low, and yes that is in the bit on the roof and FW 4.18 will not fix that.

Why is this an emergency?  Are you also losing data (before sunrise)?

And yes, it can take up to a full day for the "reset" (in your case, changing the channel), before the "low ISS battery" message comes back, even if the battery is actually low.

Not an emergency but cannot live without it  =8-)

I will surely know if it is the battery because for the past 3 nights, the ISS stoped sending data utill sunrise.

I will not break my neck to change the battery that is for sure.

I might think of a project for the next summer to install a very big 3 volt battery on the bottom of the post so it should last for 20 years. Otherwise, I will have to know how much current this thing is using to install a resistance on a 6 volt battery then hook it up to a dummy in the ISS.

Maybe someone one this site might have the answer.

Cheers.

you could use bootcamp and windows 10 on your computer or parallels with win 10, and do it.

Yes indeed but from what I can understand, not much to gain.

Like they say, if it ain’t broke, don’t touch it.

I will stick to that theory.

Thanks to all of you for your great help.

I don't recall that you said that was your problem - you just mentioned the console messages and a firmware upgrade.  Saying that from the start would have resulted in better answers.

How long has this battery lasted?  And be sure to keep track of how long the new one lasts.  If it's much shorter than expected (for your latitude), then you might have a supercapacitor problem.

Yes.  Where does it say that you were losing data?  You finally said "for the past 3 nights, the ISS stoped sending data utill sunrise."  You said that in Reply #10.

Maybe you are right but the point here is not to start a discussion on minor details.

My questions have been answered and I am please about that.

I usually speak french and it is no easy for me to write and think in english.

p.s: I just found out on a french forum from France that 4.18 correct a problem where the ISS will not transmit a battery failure when a low tension is discover and do not last for less than 2 minutes. Hum!!

Yes, I acknowledge that.  I was also trying to point out that a question like:

"My ISS stopped sending data before sunrise, and both consoles tell me that the ISS battery is low"

...would have led to a much quicker answer than asking

I don't think that's a minor detail, nor do I think it's a problem with the French/English language.

However, I apologize for giving offense, JohnDoe1983.

I finally decided to buy a Windows 10 and I installed it with BOOT CAMP on my Mac Book Pro.

I transferred the firmware file onto it and connected my 2 consoles.

They upgraded without any problem.

Much easier than I though.

Since it might help with the ISS problem with the battery I will surely know tomorrow morning. Otherwise they are forecasting a very warm day (  0 centigrade ) on wednesday so I should be able to replace that darn thing.

A guy on a french forum said that they lower the threshold of the alarm at 2 volt with that upgrade.

Will let you know.

i think that the latest firmware, the console does need you to hold down the Done button to get live data after a cold start up ? (i.e no power/batteries)?
if so that is a plus

Well, the upgrade did not change anything.

Lost my ISS between 3am till 7.30 this morning.

Will be climbing tomorrow for sure even though we had a lot of freezing rain yesterday.
