Weather Stations on Stamps
« on: May 27, 2018, 05:17:11 PM »
Two hobbies of mine merged: weather stations and stamp collecting.  Here are a few stamps from around the world featuring weather stations from the former Gilbert and Ellice Islands, Portugal, Albania and Namibia respectively.  The stamp I use as an avatar is from Sweden.

Thanks for pics of those beautiful stamps.

They all make the emphatic point that heat shielding is absolutely essential.

Thanks to you both. As you can see, most stamps featuring weather stations depict some version of the Stevenson Screen enclosure.  Many other weather-related stamps are issued to honor the World Meteorological Organization, World Meteorological Day, government weather agencies, and weather instruments.   —Bill

This is very cool.  Thank you for sharing.  I was actually born in Sweden and will share your avatar with my dad.  He'll get a kick out of it.  =D>

Awesome! I love seeing weather instruments on stamps, posters, U-Haul trucks etc.

Great find!
I live in an apartment and for the moment am not a home weather watcher.

I am a storm chaser.

Beautiful stamps!  I'm way behind on reading things here since a move took up most of my summer #-o

I noticed some back as far as 1973 but I can't recall ever seeing that one anywhere around here. That one is not a USPS stamp??

Glad you like the stamps. The 1973 stamp you cited was issued by the Gilbert and Ellice Islands, a former British colony.
