Ambient 1001 in Tropical Environment
« on: September 25, 2015, 06:11:26 PM »
I'm considering purchasing an Ambient Weather 1001 to replace my Acurite 01035 unit. However, I pause when I notice the following disclaimer:  Do not use in salt water environments.  I live on the coast on North Carolina's Outer Banks. Any idea why they would have this disclaimer and has anyone else used one of these stations in a coastal environment?

Thanks,
Chris

Ahhh, my old stomping grounds..... Anyway, you must know that salt water is incredibly corrosive if you've lived there any length of time. With any kind of brisk easterly component, your gonna get sea spray to some magnitude depending how far from the water you are. Ambient is merely CTA by stating "we're not responsible" for your PWS's affected parts rusting away. Personally, I would shop elsewhere.

I'm a couple of miles inland from the beach so I don't get actually sea spray, just a very moist, typically windy environment. The Acurite unit has held up fairly well, much better than my previous Oregon Scientific and LaCrosse units.
Thanks for the input!
