Siting a WS-1400 or WS-1001 on a small lot
« on: June 24, 2015, 01:18:43 AM »
Looking to purchase my first weather station. I am leaning towards the ambient, most likely the WS-1400

I am concerned about siting as I have no likely place to put it. We have a small lot, under 9000 sq ft, and anywhere I put it will be near the house, pavement, fence or under a tree. I have nothing even close to open space.

Is it even worth it? Will my readings be way off? I am mostly concerned about temperature and rainfall. Useful approximations on everything else is fine.

Thanks

Not under a tree, not over pavement, if near a fence, a couple feet higher than the fence.  In general, as far away from the house or other tall things as possible, realize the wind speed and direction won't be real representative but temperature and humidity would be ok if over some vegetation and clear overhead so you'll get rainfall. Few people really have totally ideal siting conditions.
