Auto FTP'ing
« on: February 12, 2011, 01:17:57 PM »
Does anyone here use an external application to FTP their files to their site? I'd like to get away from using VWS's internal FTP, but not sure which one to use.  I have FileZilla on one of my PCs.  Does anyone know if FileZilla is capable of setting up a schedule for auto FTP?  (Like every 5 minutes)

This one looks like it would do the job:

ps: googling for Fling is always fun, end up with a bunch of Ashley Madison type
"cheat on your spouse" links.

Thanks Andrew. I'm downloading it now.  That AutoFTP looked ok, but it's ad supported for the free version.  Fling sounds nice since it doesn't use its own interface.

Wow...well that was easy!  I have it running and have all internet features turned off on VWS. Is there a better way to stop VWS from FTP'ing, but still allow it to get METAR data?

I did not touch the internet settings.  I just turned off all the timers under HTML settings... and Jpeg FTP settings. Change to "no update scheduled"

Ok, cool.  I notice the image files in my vws/root folder were updating but not the htm files. Is there something special that needs to be set up in Fling to also recognize the htm files?

No, nothing special has to be done.
Do you have fling setup to scan for changes? or timer based?

When you turned off HTML ftp schedule, did you accidentally turn up the HTML updater schedule?

What happens (if you are using scan for changes option) if you click the UPDATE HTML files now, in VWS.   You should see fling window start chugging as soon as you click that.

I'm using the scan for changes option. I believe I did turn off the html option.  It's back on and seems to be working. You da man!   :-P

Scott, I too also recommend Fling, but recently I believe their software is now trial-ware.  In other words after 30 days or so (not sure), it will shut down and require you to purchase a license.  If this happens to be the case with yours, let me know.  I had downloaded and saved the installation files of a previous version, before they put this limitation in it.  So I can provide you a link to the file if needed.  8-[

Scott,

Fling does still have a free version. If you'll review my post near the bottom of this thread, you'll see how to get the free version.

Thanks Steve.  I just read your post.  I noticed on their site it's free for educational institutes and non-profitable personal use.  I guess you have to downgrade to that version like you mentioned in your post.

thanks!

I went ahead and bought a copy, even the free version had some restriction. Love it though, it made everything more stable.
