Toshiba network WB11A
« on: October 04, 2007, 10:28:36 AM »
Hi, I just bot a WB11A off ebay used without instructions or ethernet cable. Anyone out there using this camera? I need advice on the connection to the internet. It has the power cable and power supply and I have downloaded the instruction manual. Any tips you experts can provide will be greatly appreciated.

The WB11A is the older version of the WB15A. The only differences I can find are the digital zoom and no POE, power over ethernet. I have the WB15A and can pretty much answer any questions you have. You might also want to look here http://www.toshibasecurity.com/products/prod_camera_detail_ikwb15a.jsp at the manuals for the current model, everything should be pretty much the same. Did you get the cd with the camera that has the camera finder on it? You will need that to set up the camera on your network.

As for connecting it to the internet, do you have a static or dynamic ip address? If it is dynamic, when your provider decides to change your ip, you will have to change it on your web page for people to be able to access it. If you are using a router, you'll have to set up port forwarding on your router and assign a port for your camera to use. Sounds complicated but all in all it's pretty easy.

So basically if you got the cd with the camera, plug your camera in, install the cd and run it. It will find your camera and give you the ip address. If not, it's a little more complicated.

Thanks for the reply and offer to help. I do not have the CD or ethernet cable. I have downloaded the manual and hope my new Dell with VISTA will see the camera. Do you know if it will? Or is it mandatory that I have the CD? The camera itsself looks new and I got it cheap enough, if I have to spend a few bucks to get the necessary parts I am still ahead even though its the old model. We are working on the website and its still under construction. I have just ordered the Davis VP2 Pro and don't even have it yet. As you can tell I am new to this program.

Good luck with Vista, some people have no issues with hardware, for others it seems to be a nightmare (driver wise).

I'm sure you can download any software/firmware needed directly from the Toshiba website--they may even have drivers just for Vista...

For a dynamic IP address, I use the free DynDNS service--there are other similar free services. Basically you pick a "static" name, like alhamilton.dyndns.org, then run a little program (sits in system tray) on your computer that periodically updates DynDNS with your current IP address.

Then, the link to your camera would be alhamilton.dyndns.org:port# (this is where the port forwarding comes in)--and it never changes, even though your real IP address might...

I've got 4 IP cams on my network--with my first cam it was a bit of a learning curve, but not really all that hard to figure out the port forwarding stuff...

Marc VISTA does have one strange glitch. Using Outlook Express if you read an email and shut off the computer before deleting the email when you reboot I will not alow you to delete it.....Had to rename the Outlook program and install a new one and then delete the renamed program. Took a while to solve that one then I went to Monzilla Thunderbird. Not as good as Outlook but works with Vista.

ncpilot, Marc what kind of plane do you fly? I am just back to working on the camera. The IP address given in the manual is out of date so I need to find someone with the installation CD to see if it will work. My computer recognizes the camera but w/o an address it won't show any pictures. I have tried picasa but it doesn't see the camera. I am on a network and the camera is plugged into the router. That may be an issue.

If you're at home, get into the router settings and hunt around to see if the camera is listed there. Some routers give the IP address and device name.
Also, the previous owner may still have the IP address in the camera. There should be a way to re-set the camera settings back to default.

There most likely is a little push button that will do a hardware reset... small enough to require a paper clip to push, then the default IP address should work...

Well... hate to admit that I haven't flown in a few years, but when I did... Cessna 172 mostly, with a few others thrown in over the years, but basically either a 2 or 4 seat single engine...

Curly and NCPilot, the prior owner was a store in NY and used the camera as a demo. They say go to the Toshiba website and download. I  have done that but the IP address for this camera setup has been discontinued like the camera. I need to find someone with the CD and buy a copy.
I have an old Cessna 180 and fly around the West Coast. Gas is about $4.30 per so not as much fun as a few years ago.

192.168.0.30 should be the default IP address of the camera after performing a reset:

I don't understand what you're saying... there's an internal IP address for the camera which you access from your LAN. If you want WAN access then you need to open up a port on your router that is linked to the camera's internal IP (which is by default 192.168.0.30).

Some camera makers offer their own hosting service--perhaps that's what you're talking about? A hosting service name set up by the prior owner is no longer registered with Toshiba maybe?

You can always access a web cam on your LAN using some form of 192.x.x.x--as long as you know that address...

Well, I got the camera working and it does all the things (PTZ) it should. Picture is not as sharp as I would like. Am I missing something? The default settings are working but the image is not as sharp as some others I have seen and the it doesn't like bright sunlight.
