National Weather Service Signs Significant Patent Technology Agreement With AccuWeather

The U.S. National Weather Service (NWS), a division of National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), has signed a licensing agreement that grants NWS the right to use two of AccuWeather's unique technology patents.

AccuWeather's unique patented technologies help to geographically pinpoint observed weather conditions and other observed events. These technologies allow information on the events to be delivered to individuals through the use of mobile devices. This capability for providing forecasts and warnings on hazardous weather conditions will be utilized in collaboration with the NWS.

geographically pinpoint observed weather conditions and other observed events.

Isn't this available in some form or another right now? :???:

Also, isn't Accu Weather the same company that wanted the NWS to stop making forecasts several years ago so private industry could do it for a profit while using tax payer funded items such as satellite images and WSR-88D radar data.
I could be wrong on that but I thought it was something like that.

This is not really a partnership with AccuWeather, it's just a way to use their patented ideas on a couple of things. They just needed some of their technology.
