...SIGNIFICANT COLD SPELL COMING TO THE INTERIOR...

Many areas in the interior will have 40 to 50 below low
temperatures next week.

Temperatures will cool across the interior through Friday when
some areas will have lows around 30 below. It will warm a bit for
the weekend with lows around 20 below.

For next week a high pressure system will develop over Siberia
which will drag cold air out of the arctic and Canada into the
interior, and temperatures will fall to 40 to 50 below. The
coldest areas will be in the upper Yukon Flats, but the middle
Tanana Valley, including Fairbanks, will be around 40 below for
lows.

High temperatures will not be much warmer as there is very little
solar heating to help warm the atmosphere and break the strong
inversion that will develop.

One of the climate  guys here  is saying it can possibility get down to where  radial engine aircraft will be shut down  when it drops to 60 below which he is seeing for  some areas like Bettles and the slope. This has happen in the  80's and also in the 90's. I looked ahead at my little area and couple forecast was showing 54 below.  Come on up  and we  will go ice fishing.
