I think they do have a good idea though of having separate sensors and the solar power transmitters are nice, too.

that's what i liked about the OSI WMR968 units. Each sensor had it's own solar powered transmitter. You could put them anywhere which is what the CWOP siting guide asked you to do....

Not to hijack the thread but I just got done writing a somewhat lengthy email to OSI letting them know of mine and others' disatisfaction with the THGR968 sensor and it's problems.
To my surprise I have gotten several emails back telling me that they will pass this on to the senior engineers for invesitgation. I know, I know , don't start yet witht the usual "Believe it whan I see it" routine. I am a little more curious this time with the unusual quick responses to my emails. I also let them know about this site and encouraged them to look at the forum for the complaints and problems we have seen with this sensor (THGR968).

FWIW,

Jim

Without a doubt, Jim...I second that one!
That sensor is truly a piece of junk.
So disappointing.

Well I bought them on Wednsday and just got an email that they have shipped! Should be here in a few days. Looking forward to them hopefully working. Anybody need an extra let me know....Your cost would be shipping only. I like to pass good deals on when I can :)

Jim,

I agree.... Now if ANYBODY from OS is reading these posts.....

Take the 968 console (Upgrade it to a USB Communication standard) and solar transmitters, upgrade either the hardware for the ANE. or the firmware so that we could get, at the minimum, 5 second wind updates (Less would be better as well as more accurate), put the guts from the 122 or similiar temp sensors into the outdoor temp/RH sensor and add in a UV sensor and I would buy 1 in a heartbeat. I'm pretty sure they could do it for less than $500 and still make money. Wishful thinking I geuss . I'm SURE they would release it about 2 months after I buy my Davis  #-o

Good News, I got my 5 sensors in the mail yesterday.  It's interesting what I got for my $20.70.  So I thought I would share my discoveries with everyone.

All sensors were OS THGR122NX units.  Three of them NEW. (Still had the LCD screen protector on them).  Two of them were not new with minor wear seen, but in very good condition.  One of these two used units had batteries installed (the OS factory installed "Maxell" branded units), but one of the batteries was inserted in it's slot backwards.
I tested all 5 for transmit, and reception on my OS-WMR968, they all worked just fine.

I also noticed that one of the NEW ones, had a slightly different OS logo on the front.

One unit out of the five, which was one of the NEW ones, was a Celsius Unit Display, but again the WMR968 receives it as "Fahrenheit sensor" just fine

The back of that unit had slightly different printing on it compared to the others.

This is the Celsusis Unit's back....

This is the Fahrenheit Unit's back....

So it looks like I finally found a good bargain on ebay. \:D/ \:D/

What variance is there ( if any) in the readings displayed by the 5 units?

Here is another bargain, beats Ambient's price.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170364754549&_trkparms=tab%3DWatching

^^As far as this unit I also purchased one.  It came new sealed in a OS branded box.  It works great, and I spent the evening yesterday installing my new "soil temp" sensor.   The OS-WMR968 receives the signal just fine.  But of course there is no humidity sensor for this unit, so your console will just display "--" for that data.

So all in all another great purchase. \:D/ \:D/
Here is my pic of the unit.

#-o, darn the one thing I did not test.

.....I just checked, I don't have enough AAA batteries to run all 5 at the same time.

I have this unit in my pool.  No humidity sensor, but I could just hard code mine on my website as 100%    pretty sure that is accurate.

Reminds me of a Dennis Miller joke.  The show is starting and an assistant brings out a glass of water.  He comments that he loves how water always comes with a swizzle stick, as if you dont stir it, the hydrogen and oxygen molecules might separate....

:-) Sam: you definitely got a value added purchase there!  Nice.  =D>

I've been using a 122NX outdoors, but don't care for it's tx range.  It is a fine sensor, though.

I just received a new THGR268 with the free John Deere BAR122HGLA from Ambient and plan on swapping out the 122NX with the 268.
The 268 has a 300 foot range, as noted in the Owner's Manual.  I'm hoping to improve my weather station's accuracy due to all the problems I've been having with the solar powered THGR968.

Wish me luck.  It's been frustrating.  It's too bad the 968 has such a poor history. :-(

Yeah, I buy that once in awhile.  Just add a little water and it's all wet again.

Sounds like a good plan.  Yeah the 968 can give you troubles that make you want to pull your hair out sometimes.

Well after 2 days without the internet (My Fios Router carpped out) I'm happy to say my sensors showed up also. 4 with the protective film on them never used and 1 that if it was used was hard to see how. after loading up the batteries it seemed 3 of them were DOA. Not very happy at first but after pulling the batteries out 2 or 3 times I noticed that 1 set of contacts were not touching the batt. A small metal pick pulled them out a bit and as soon as I loaded up the Batts they were up and running. :)

I wound up with 5 of the N series. No NX's in my lot but they all seem to work perfect with the 968. It's nice to see real humidity readings again :) It transmits fine from about 40' away, even inside a PVC FARS unit so I'm real happy.

Thanks for the heads up Sam!!

:-(  I wanted to swap it out today, but it's not safe to go up on the roof because of the rain.
I would go...but the wife is home, and she'll kill me before I kill myself climbing up on the wet roof.
Perhaps tomorrow.  I am frustrated at my dewpoint readings being so much out of whack, so it's on my To Do list, near the top.
I'll keep you all posted.

I'm prepping things today to perform the swap out tomorrow.
I just hate it that I have to give up Channel One because of a junky THGR968.  :-x
