MB Pro Display life
« on: December 04, 2016, 07:48:36 AM »
I have experienced darkening "splotches" in the display of the MB Pro recently.
This is most noticeable when running the large display options.
When I posted this on the MB forum, Boris responded with this:

OLED display does wear-out a bit over time. That OLED cells do get darker after a certain
amount of displaying bright content is something that has to do with the technology used.
We cannot do anything against it. You can reduce the wear-out by shutting off the display
during times of the day you don't need it. This can be controlled on "system" tab.

I have since activated this feature using the "day/night" option. A schedule for hours can also be used. I also switched to the RF signal display since it is smaller font and barely noticeable in this mode. I have multiple Davis console displays close by, so I really don't need to see the weather data on the Pro.

After what I have seen and the inherent behavior of OLED, I would strongly recommend shutting down the display using this feature during the "off hours".

My MB Pro is approaching its first anniversary this month. Despite this new issue, I still really like it. With the later FW upgrades, it just keeps getting better and better.
