No kidding. The arctic air that brought all the snowy pictures online has now reached our area. This is what my weather page says right now:

High Temperature 73.2 F at 8:15a
Low Temperature  37.2 F at 1:53p

So it's dropped by 35 degrees since I left home this morning

Rode home from work tonight with my arm out the window looking at the Christmas lights in 65°F.  Seemed weird.  I agree the length of the warm spell was unusual.  Normally only lasts a few hours or a day right ahead of the cold front this time of year.

I checked with the NWS and the last time this happened was in 1982. But they didn't give me any other information.

The low temperature so far today is 65.3°F at 01:09 this morning. Pretty unusual considering our highs this time of year are usually in the 50's. Ten minute average windspeed has stayed above 10 mph all morning. Gusts have been 18+ mph with a high of 24 mph. I am seeing a message on the VP2 console I've never seen before, "Kite Flying Weather". Looks like the storms ahead of the front will get here later this morning. The sky has been really angry looking for the past 24 hours. You can see what I mean at http://tobaccovilleweather.com/SkyCam24.wmv.

Oh come on you bunch of softies. An inch of ice Wednesday, 8 inches of snow yesterday, 11 degrees this morning with a wind chill of -1. I've already cleaned 5 driveways today. I need some younger neighbors.  :D

You can keep that type of weather to yourself. I don't want it around here. Too many trees.

I did something today I have never done in December. I had to mow my lawn. Usually the lawnmower is put away in early October. I thought the early freeze here had taken care of the grass but I was wrong.

We had a major air mass change as the front passed through. The temperature hasn't dropped significantly but the dewpoint fell out the bottom. The wind is starting to shift around towards the NW. Once it gets there I expect temps will start falling. I still can't believe how hot it got this afternoon.

It is going to be rough when mother nature decides to adjust the averages back to normal.

Sure has come to an end, high today of 72.3 down to current 40.8. Over a 30 deg drop. High gust today hit 39mph with a sustained 15mph throughout the day. Some trees down. One of my greenhouse panels got blown out. Found it three yards away against a neighbors fence.

Only 0.46" precip. with some sleet and flurries here.  Winds were the main issue.  I lost about four tabs on my fiberglass shingles that I need to tend to but the roof is getting old and due for replacement anyway.  Peak gust was 48mph.

As expected the temperature dropped rapidly when the wind shifted to the NW. The temperature went from a high of 75° F yesterday afternoon to a low of 35° F this morning. The predicted high for today is 15° F to 20° F cooler than yesterday.

The air is extremely dry. The dewpoint is in the mid 20's. Time to crank up the humidifier.

Yep, turned my humidifier on last night too.

Had a high of 77 here yesterday and a low this morning of 31.  Really not all that much wind here yesterday, but just north and west there were several reports of gusts over 50 mph...

Like Kevin in Roanoke VA, here in Winchester Va (about 170 mi NE of Roanoke), we had 75 degrees Friday afternoon and 34 Saturday morning.  Now we're 24 & predicting 20 tonight.  (Our average mean temp for Dec is 35.1).  Being on the east coast we're not use to the abrupt temp swings like the middle of the country.  But it's fun to observe.
