Solar Eclipse Jan.15, 2010
« on: January 15, 2010, 05:34:57 AM »
Well it's come and gone now. Since I don't have solar filters for this camera I just shot these off a wall of our store room under a huge fruit tree that provided lots of aperatures for the sun. Sorry for the quality. Top left to bottom right is the start to mid way through. The moon didn't quite make it completely over the sun, only about 90% or so then started uncovering again. You can see the slight drop in temperature from the graph where the eclipse started around 2:30PM then peaked and started back around 3:45PM then sunset a little after.

Our excitement for the day.  :-)

Great!

So interesting, too, about the temperature drop.
Radiation  ;)
Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Henry. You know the coolest part of it all was my (Thai) father-in-law was next to me the whole time I was taking pix and stuff. We got to talking about the eclipse and how I was going to put some of the pictures together with a temp. graph. The language barrier made the conversation a bit challenging but it worked out. When I put it all together at the end and printed out the page to show him you should have seen the smile on his face. He's 83 years young and to see him like this made my day. I showed him the mysterious pole in the ground with the upside down stacked plates attached to it and explained that was where the temp. readings came from. He now understands what that contraption in the yard is (I think). :-)

Very cool!  Glad you were able to get some good views and photos of the event!

I wish we got a chance to experience more of that kind of stuff up this way, but alas, we are not in the right geographic location for such things of the time.  Had a cool lunar eclipse around here a few years ago.  That was cool too!

  Hooray, Dan!  Good for you.  Putting a smile on your FIL's face, and having fun with this hobby of ours...it's all worth it.  =D>
