WU and Intellicast
« on: April 15, 2014, 06:22:22 PM »
I just got an email from WU announcing that they had partnered with Intellicast to provide PWS data. When I go to the Intellicast forecast page for our area, my weather station data now shows up in a section called "nearby weather stations".
Interesting...

I have not received an email from WU but my station is now listed on Intellicast also.

I entered my zip code into intellicast and it gave me an airport weather station an hour away.  However, I am listed as a nearby station.   #-o

Interesting...

Well, since they're both owned by the company that owns The Worthless Channel.......

I would imagine that a morphing of the two is in the works.

And I say we all cut our feeds to WU and say forget them! What have we received in exchange for allowing TWC and Intellicast to use our data? Bullcrap!!!

So how many people have stopped feeding WU/Intellicast since they have merged? I'm thinking about stopping my data to WU.

I don't see the big deal of them merging. Why stop feeding? I'm missing the point unless there is something wrong with Intellicast that I'm unaware of. Mine is there too.

Whatever man. Sharing data doesn't bother me.  I got the weather station to share data with the public on the conditions in my backyard. So when people go to sites like WU, Intellicast, etc... they see my data and if they are  interested they bookmark my site. So like I said I'm all for it. If I wanted to not share my data I wouldn't have a website. Just my 2 cents.

There was also a thread some time ago, maybe a couple of years back, just after WU was assimilated where someone from WU was posting here.  They tried to assure everyone that nothing would change and no information would be spread among other sites that had also been taken over.

Most people with brains knew the guy was lying thorough his teeth.

I'm like you, not sure what the issue is with Intellicast other than WU didn't ask PWS owners for permission but I use their Rapid Fire feature all the time so don't mind myself. I'm actually pleased with Intellicast using the rapid fire live update feature also.

Good grief WeatherHost. You should look into anger management. Many of your posts seem a bit angry and confrontational. If you can't say anything nice get off.

In my opinion I couldn't care less about what happens to my data beyond WU. And that includes TWC and Intellacast. I live in the suburbs of a major metropolitan area and am surrounded by several hundred thousand people who do use TWC and Intellacast in addition to WU. I send my data mostly for use by the public and community. So I agree with cospringswx. I too don't understand why were making such a big deal out of it? But as the rest of us that's just my opinion. I have better things to worry about.

I completely agree! I set up my weather station to upload data to wunderground and then my personal weather website to share data with the public, so when I see my data being used on multiple sites I know the is a bigger reach of people that view my weather data from my specific location on a daily basis. I have enjoyed weather underground and their support. I have nothing against them sharing my PWS data with others.
You can see how I use the wunderground settings to upload data to my personal weather webpage at my website...

Absolutely, no way for me.  This is because in return for my data to WU, I make good use of 9 of their stickers, radar and weather maps on the main home page of my site.  I am usually happy with it.

Maybe people who don't like sharing data for free should offer selling it to companies like WU, or which ever company whose practices they respect.  They would probably say, no thank you, but you never know until you try.
