tripod mount for WS-1090
« on: January 13, 2013, 01:05:33 PM »
Hi all,
Just getting started here and I'm planning to go with a collapsable tripod and extension pole. I will probably mount it to the flat part of our roof and may eventually move it to another site (why I want something portable). My question is does it really matter what type of tripod? I see brand specific tripods for sale ($24.95 on eBay) for 1.75" outside diameter poles. They look the same to me as the EZ-48 Ambient has for sale (for $56). What sizing really matters? I am still going to need some form of extension mast and a mast to mast mounting bracket too. What solutions have other tripod users deployed? Thanks in advance from a newbie! :-)

I don't know about masts and tripods as to specific brands.  However if you have a flat roof, and you want portability, you may want to consider mounting your tripod to a wooden pallet.  That saves holes in the roof.  And you can put a couple of cinder blocks on the pallet, if you desire, to weight it down.

And welcome to the forum!  Enjoy your stay  :)

The pallet is a great idea. I'll be picking one up.
Thanks,
