Weather channel is trying some
« on: May 25, 2010, 07:18:43 PM »
Excellent coverage on TWC tonight.  I have been watching for 45 minutes and they have been monitoring a storm in western Kansas.  It had a gorgeous wall cloud for a while and it just developed a tornado that touched down.  It was awesome.  It has gone back up now.  Still a great wall cloud and a mothership supercell.  And, Dr. Forbes is holding class on this one.  At least they are doing weather tonight. =D>
I do hope they keep this up!

It is good that TWC does this, but they need to do it ALL THE TIME.... I dont know why they think that people are going to watch their station for forecasts over their local stations #-o

I think that TWC has improved much in the past 6 months. Before I was hard pressed to find anything but their programs on when visiting their channel. It seems they have also cut back on commercials for their own programming. Now they are actually covering the weather most of the time and I rarely see any of the special shows. I hope they keep it up.
The only suggestion I would make now is for the camera crews to move around more. Show different videos of the weather event rather than the same clip over and over for hours (days).

I have been ecstatic over TWC for the last month or so with the severe outbreaks.  I absolutely love all the analysis by Dr. Forbes.  You can tell he must have been a superb teacher when he was a professor.  Over the last week or more I have hardly had anything else on but TWC!

Agreed, TWC and especially Dr. Forbes have provided some outstanding coverage of the recent outbreaks!

I found it very educational to pull up my own GR3 screens while he was reviewing the same storms.  8-)

But the local 8s still annoy me.  :-x

Maybe they could go to local on the 15s, I think that would be plenty!  :-)

I pulled up my GR3 screens as well and looked at the same cells he was...

How about local 20s?

That is one aspect I do like about TWC, when Dr Forbes is doing a segment he uses the same software as I do. That gives me an opportunity to follow along and further my education so to speak. But I think we could make the local forecasts a half hourly event at the least :)

They have improved no doubt but I still miss John Hope during hurricane season. You could almost bank on his analysis of a hurricane!

I say get rid of the locals period, and that you click a button on your satellite like I do to see it, but I still have to see locals

I agree with you on this.. wouldn't cause me any inconveniences at all but it may to some. You don't need too many bad forecasts anyway and mine is more closely tailored for my immediate area and if I want to be more exact I hit the models. Yeah they could definitely cut em back! Like you said there's a button for it if you want to see it :)

Plus, no offense to TWC, most people probably check their local channels for weather...and check online for non-local weather hours.

Strongly disagree!  Just because most people do something does not mean there are not a significant number of people who do check TWC frequently for weather.  I personally know at least 15 people who do not own a computer.  I know from experience when people miss the forecast on TWC they call me for the forecast! They don't want to wait another 10 minutes because they are too busy. Most people don't want to see the satellite. They want the forecast.  And, if you are getting your forecasts and other info from online what does it matter to you what TWC does?  It does not affect you in any way.

TWC has definitely stepped up it's game during severe weather.  Forbes is awesome, I particularly like when he's on with Cantore.  Of course a little more Heather Tesch wouldn't hurt.  lol

I think they should do the local maybe every 15-20 minutes.  I do know a lot of people who still flip on TWC for the local forecast.  My Dad is one of them.

Well, I still think that their should be an optional feature implemented into cable like satellite to where local on the 8s wouldnt be needed, and a click of the remote would give you your forecast

On the surface this a great idea, however, I don't think TWC would go for it.

Most likely too many viewers would just tune the channel in, click the remote for their local forecast then tune to a different channel.
The advertisers wouldn't like that. Although we would love it!  :-)

^^  As long as NBC owns it you won't see that change.  It'll be interesting to see what happens if and when Comcast takes over.  They might fix TWC so I can watch it again or they might drive the rest of you away.

I agree with most that TWC seems to have improved quite a bit over the last six months or so.  Of course many large outbreaks do help, but I think they also are starting to realize that large severe weather and winter storm outbreaks do attract high ratings for the network.  But I am looking for more continuity even during down periods, though I can see some canned programming when most of the country is sunny and warm.

I hope they HAVE realized it! They were on limited breaks earlier today, but now one of those shows like "It Could Happen Tomorrow" is on, which I dont really care about.

They used to have a cool storm chasing show during the summertime, but I havent seen it for awhile and dont remember the title...It used to come on at 9PM.

Still, kudos TWC!
