WS-2902 10-in-1 question
« on: January 04, 2018, 07:21:39 PM »
Hello, I just got the WS-2902 10-in-1 over the holidays. I have not been able to test out the rainfall as I live in New England area and it hasn't gotten above freezing since I put it out. Hopefully the rainfall gage will work in the spring..

This brings me to a few questions :

1. Does this device require any calibration for any of its features.

2. Does this device give snow fall accumulations when it don't give rainfall?

Thanks in Advance.

Welcome.  It might require calibration, depending on how and where you mount the sensor array.  It kind of gives inaccurate snow fall accumulations, when the snow melts if there is enough liquid to trigger the sensor.  Others have installed a heating coil to the underside of the rainfall gauge to melt the snow as it arrives, which will give a more accurate reading.

Just out of interest...does 1mm of melted snow = 1mm of snowfall?

I live in Melbourne, Australia, where it is currently 42C (107.6F) and snow is not something I have to contend with.

No, the general rule of the thumb is 10 to 1 ratio for SWE - 1cm snow = 1mm water.  But that ratio can vary considerable depending on wet or dry snow.  I've seen it at a 15 - 1 ratio and also less than 5 to 1.

We would certainly welcome some of your warm weather as we've been pretty cold and continued snow squalls coming off of the Great Lakes.

Enjoy,
Paul

You'll probably have to calibrate the air pressure; directions to do so are in your user manual.

As he said. There are different types of snow. A general basic rule is the 10X1 rule. 10 inches of snow = 1 inch of rain or 25.4cm of snow = 2.54cm rain water of No the WS-2902 would be difficult to set up unless you went with the rain gauge heater set up. I don't think personally that the ws-2902 would be up to  it or worth modifying. Everyone is different so if your into that go for it.

I personally have had the WS-2902 since the beginning of November and have never had a problem. I also went the ObserverIP version and meteobridge route (TL-MR-3020 TP link router) and installed there firmware to turn into the same as Observerweather Meteobridge. Was not hard but it did take a lot of reading as your waiting for delivery from Amazon or wherever you happen to find one.

@Andyk can I join that web site you're using for your data, using my WS-2902 10-IN-1? Or do you need certain criteria? I've been using wunderground and Weather cloud. Which is probably enough for a beginner like me..

Yes. Everything you need to know is on "http://www.meteobridge.com/wiki/index.php/Home" and @ Ambientweather's site "https://www.ambientweather.com/amweatherbridge.html".
The ObserverIP is @ "https://www.ambientweather.com/amobserverip.html" All the info and setup are at all these sites on how to set it up the way you want. I read everything and downloaded all the directions while waiting on delivery. Not really hard to set up just read and follow. Lots of help out there if you are having trouble.

To me I think getting a TP-Link N150 Wireless 3G/4G Portable Router  "https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00634PLTW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1"

Not sure where you are or which amazon or online ordering sire you use but should be easy to get as save at least $170-$180 US doing it yourself with the same hardware they use and learning is the process.
