Below Zero temps.
« on: November 06, 2015, 12:33:20 AM »
I have the 1001 wifi and the - sign for temps below zero doesn't show on the weather station.  I see the - on the Wunderground website but not on the box itself.  Have I done something wrong or failed to change a setting?

In Denmark, we have had an exceptionally warm autumn.
Last night we had for the first time since last winter temperatures below zero degrees Celsius.
I discovered that I have exactly the same problem with my WS-1001 clone.
I was confused when I read the temperature 1 °C and wind chill 3.5 °C,
until I discovered that there lacked a minus sign at both places.
I am also interested in a possible solution.

I don't have the WS-1001 (I have Davis), but I was wondering if there is a segment check on your console maybe at power-on. Otherwise, if you get the light "just right" at some angle can you see all of the unlit segments on the LCD? Is there a "minus" sign in the display? If so, it might be software bug and could be fixed with a firmware update. If there is no "-" segment in the temperature area that is a major design flaw.

Don't these outfits test their products? A temperature chamber isn't that expensive for a company that isn't run out of a garage.

Many thanks for the quick reply.
I do not think that the bug has something to do with the screen.
The screen of WS-1001 is generated in a different way.

OK, I see that it is a true graphics-generated display and not fixed segments.
It should then be able to be fixed in software I would think.
