Disappointed in 1035
« on: May 12, 2014, 02:10:13 PM »
I am so disappointed with my weather station.  The barometer just does not want to calibrate and yes I have done the 14 day several times.  It has been back to the factory but still has issues.  I am showing on the display 30.06 and local METAR is 30.45.  Not terrible.  But the software download is reporting 28.076 using either Weather Display or Aculink PC connect.  I have had to go back to using my old LaCrosse for reporting to CWOP because the readings are so far off.

"Well we can test it again" yada yada.  I want a replacement, I really think this thing is a Lemon.  I really regret not spending the money on a Davis.  I want to be able to provide accurate weather to my community.

What are you using to push data?
I'm using VIS to push data to WUND.  It has the ability to set an offset.  In fact it uses the raw barometer output, not the 'calibrated' 14 day one. VIS is free but you need to leave a PC running 24/7

My 01035 too is off too no matter how I try to make it better but I don't care as it's the change I'm after.
That and I just use WUND to see what's going on.

Yes, I use VIS to push the data and I also use WD.  It is the raw barometer that is so far off.  The display is showing 29.95 and the raw is showing 27.994.
Actually my 2035 worked great for the first 3 months until the barometer went out.  They sent it back with "improvements" and it will no calibrate.  Live and learn I guess.  #-o

The raw value is an  'absolute' value, not taking altitude into consideration.  I built a barometer using a Bosch MP180 barometric sensor and its calibrated output is the same as the raw from my Accurite 01035.  From my understanding, the raw is never calibrated.  The console displays a 'calibrated' value but the raw is always absolute pressure.

Have you tried adjusting the barometer reading in VIS?

The manual  says that the console and software do not report the same number.

That I all understand.  PC Connect is showing 28.079 - Display is showing 30.00
Current average METAR is 30.45 (average of 6 stations)  30.45 - 28.079 is a 2.371 error - almost 8% error rate

Forgive me for not knowing, but is METAR 'corrected to sea level' ?

What is your altitude?

METAR is a format for reporting weather information. A METAR weather report is predominantly used by pilots in fulfillment of a part of a pre-flight weather briefing, and by meteorologists, who use aggregated METAR information to assist in weather forecasting.

My altitude is 2230

I kind of got confused from your link.  It does appear that Metar is corrected to sea level or local altitude, and is not reporting absolute pressure.

See chart on this webpage
http://www.edcousa.net/vacuum_training.html

From this chart showing absolute pressure values at various altitudes, I think your raw barometer output is working correctly.
From sea level to 2250 ft, there is a ~2.35" difference in pressure (reading between the 2000 and 2500 altitude marks on the chart). That's the difference you're seeing from the raw output of the 01035 and Metar.

I see over at the VIS website that you've got your issue resolved.  Glad Michael could help.

Again, the difference in reading between METAR or sea level adjusted pressure vs absolute/raw is that they're not the same except at zero ft altitude.

Your raw reading is absolute pressure and looks completely reasonable for your 2230 ft altitude.

Yes, thanks to Michael for his help.  Funny that Acu-Rite claims they don't know who he is.  #-o

I'm surprised by your comment about AcuRite "not knowing" Michael.  Must have been someone new there because he is very well known to AcuRite.
