Temperature swings.
« on: January 28, 2008, 08:33:52 PM »
I am in Minneapolis

Last week we had a few days that didn't make it above zero

Today it was 40.

by tomorrow it will be a high of 9 and a low of -14.

I keep three different types of coats by the door and change them depending on the day.

If we didn't have people like you, willing to live in those conditions, we'd be overrun down here in the South!

Ok, so most of the day on Sat we were below 40, tomorrow we'll be around 65--does that count? ;)

That's just plain wrong for January and February.

We got up to 47 today.  I shed coats down to a sweater and still felt too toasty.   ;)

I don't mind the cold if it would just stay there long enough to get used to it.  Heat above 80 with humidity though I can't seem to get used to it no matter what.

Surprisingly, the humidity isn't as bad as you think on the coast--at least in Wilmington.

I pulled a bunch of weather data for my sister-in-law, who has some kind of rosy picture of weather in Colorado as being better than the Cleveland OH area--sure, it has more sun, but it still gets cold in the winter... (nothing against CO, I've been there a few times, and it's beautiful, but if you want to ride and keep horses, winter in CO has no real advantage compared to winter anywhere else...)

Anyway, the comparison of humidity between Cleveland and Wilmington showed that on average, we might be 5% higher during a couple of summer months, but the rest of the time we're equal or lower than up there...

I'll grant you though that our temps are higher, but we get nice sea breezes during the summer...

This time yesterday it was 60 sunny and windy.
Now it is 12 snowy and still windy. 25 mph gusting to 40 with windchills around -5.

It is now -7 with windchills at -30.  Then it will get worse.

The TV is now saying that we have had a -45 degree temp change.

I have lived in the midwest my entire life-we expect quick changes.

I have seen it 70 degrees and snow in the same day.
It hailed in Des Moines on Christmas eve.

I don't complain anymore.  It gives people something to talk about and is very interesting.

I beg to differ, our temps, humidity and altitude (thinner air) result in an atmosphere that has far less heat capacity than air at sea level and far more solar radiation.  I've walked around in shirtsleeves a couple times when it was about 10F here fairly comfortably.
